Within global and rapidly changing environments, cooperation and networking offer possibilities for sharing costs and risks, as well as keeping up with constantly renewed information from outside the firms' boundaries. In line with this, an effective management control of supply chain processes seems to be relevant to compete against other supply chains and to get the required information. In this context, an implementation of a management control institution for inter-firm relations, like a supply chain management control (SCMC), that provides relevant qualitative and quantitative data to manage supply chains reflects an important issue. However, a comprehensive approach with regard to the management control of the entire supply chain and how it can be fulfilled has received scant attention in prior research. The aim of this thesis is therefore to analyze management control systems in global supply chains by means of a mixed methods design with special regard to functional, institutional and instrumental issues. In this context, qualitative data are combined with theoretical insights to develop an empirical model which is tested by means of a quantitative study. Following this, insights into management control aspects, organization of the supply chain management control, management control mechanisms, and the integration of suppliers are provided.

Strategic alliances have emerged as an important element of firms' strategies. However, most contributions which address the alliance governance problem are yet rather vague and selective in their conception of alliance governance structures as well as the factors which influence their suitability. The aim of this book is to further advance our understanding of alliance governance and to provide recommendations on the problem of alliance governance design. Following the configurational approach, Sascha Albers develops a comprehensive model of alliance governance systems. He identifies relevant structural and instrumental design parameters and analyzes major contingency factors, including member firms' cultures and alliance experience, number of alliance partners, and trust, which impact the design parameters' suitability. He finally deducts five configurations, or ideal types, of alliance governance systems which can be regarded as blueprints for the practitioner and as platform for further research for the alliance scholar. Inhaltsangabe:Einleitung: Vor dem Hintergrund einer rasanten Veränderung der Marktsituation müssen Entscheidungsprozesse gestrafft werden, die auf schnellen und präzisen Analysen der Geschäftsdaten basieren. Parallel fallen durch die technologische Entwicklung riesige Mengen von Daten an, die es zu verarbeiten gilt. Den Unternehmen ist klar geworden, dass die traditionellen Erfolgsfaktoren nicht mehr ausreichen, um eine besondere Stellung auf dem Markt zu behaupten. Für eine schnelle Entscheidungsfindung und die Beschleunigung von Kommunikationsprozessen sind DV-Systeme vonnöten, die alle Probleme auf eine einfache Weise zu lösen versuchen. Dabei stoßen die vorhandenen Management Support Systeme (MSS) oft an die Grenzen ihrer Möglichkeiten. Aus diesem Grund und ob der Schwächen der Systeme haben sich konkrete Lösungen und Ansätze herausgebildet, die immer häufiger unter dem Begriff Business Intelligence zusammengefasst werden. Der Begriff Business Intelligence wird in der letzten Zeit in Theorie und Praxis im Bereich entscheidungsunterstützender Systeme häufig diskutiert. Sicher ist, dass Business Intelligence kein neues oder innovatives Konzept beschreibt, sondern als eine begriffliche Klammer gesehen wird, die eine Vielfalt von unterschiedlichen Ansätzen zur Datenanalyse subsummiert. Dabei besteht keine eindeutige Meinung, wie und in welchen Bereichen der Einsatz von Business Intelligence-Tools sinnvoll ist und sein kann. Informationstechnologien müssen mit Hilfe von Business Intelligence die Möglichkeiten bieten, aus externen oder internen Informationen relevante Zusammenhänge offenzulegen, um für die Entscheidungsunterstützung des Managements aussagekräftiges Datenmaterial zu generieren. Neben der Behandlung der Business Intelligence-Thematik wird im Rahmen dieser Arbeit zusätzlich auf den Begriff der Kooperation eingegangen. Hierbei sollen die Synergieeffekte durch die Nutzung gemeinsamer Ressourcen beleuchtet werden, um eine erfolgreiche Unternehmenssteuerung durchzusetzen. Nach einer notwendigen Begriffsabgrenzung und der getrennten Betrachtung von Business Intelligence und Kooperationscontrolling wird anschließend die Umsetzung eines modellierten Gesamtkonzeptes beschrieben. Supply Chain Management ist ein weitgehend etabliertes und unverändert relevantes Konzept. Ein wichtiger Aspekt der aktuellen Diskussion in Theorie und Praxis ist die Unterstützung von Supply Chain Management durch Controlling. Insbesondere die Bereitstellung von Kennzahlen in einer „Informationsbasis des Supply Chain Controllings“ verspricht hohen Nutzen. Bei der Analyse der bisherigen Arbeiten wird deutlich, dass bislang noch kein Vorschlag zur Gestaltung der Informationsbasis existiert, der den Praxisstand einbezieht. Der Autor greift diese Forschungslücke auf und entwickelt in drei aufeinander aufbauenden Schritten einen empirisch überprüften Gestaltungsvorschlag für die Informationsbasis des Supply Chain Controllings: (1) Erarbeitung einer Soll-Konzeption durch strukturierende Analyse und normative Beurteilung in der Literatur vorhandener Vorschläge, (2) Erhebung von empirischen Informationen über den Stand der Unternehmenspraxis, (3) Entwicklung eines Gestaltungsvorschlags auf Basis der erarbeiteten Soll-Konzeption unter Einbezug der erhobenen empirischen Erkenntnisse.
