A questionnaire, interviews and observations were used to collect data for the study. Findings indicated that technology integration is a factor in the teaching of social studies in the school. The study showed that Internet research, video tape, overhead projectors and online learning were the favored form of technology integrated into classroom instruction. The study showed a need to provide pre-service and classroom teachers with training opportunities which emphasize technology integration. Teachers' perceptions of technology integration and prior teaching experiences were two of the noted factors which influenced a teacher's decision to integrate technology.

The purpose of the study was to investigate the utilization of the Internet in senior high schools in the Cape Coast Metropolis in the Central Region of Ghana. The sample consisted of 100 students and 25 teachers in three Senior High Schools. The stratified random sampling technique was used to select the three schools to represent the school types (co-ed, girls, boys, schools) with one school in each stratum, respectively. For each stratum, respondents were selected using the simple random technique. Structured questionnaires consisting of closed items were used to collect the data from the sample. Three sets of questionnaires were designed and administered to the three groups of respondents; teachers, students and administrators. Descriptive statistical method was employed concurrently to analyze the data using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) software. The major findings of the study include the following: (1) A greater percentage of the students have access to the internet at school, but the majority of students with access to the Internet hardly use it; (2) Majority of teachers have access to the Internet in their schools but hardly use it. The few who use it do that mainly for their personal development; and (3) A majority of schools are undecided on having ICT budget whiles a majority of schools have ICT policy but do not have a budget to implement it. From the findings, some recommendations we have advanced to enhance the use of the Internet in senior high schools. These include: (1) the need for ICT departments to introduce browsing sessions in their computer laboratories for students while taking steps to monitor usage to ensure that students use the Internet for educational and prevent possible internet abuse; and (2) teachers should be given ICT training to enhance their knowledge in the use of the Internet and school administrators should prepare budgets for ICT implementation. Activity Analysis Of Information And Communication Technology Integration In Botswana Senior Secondary Schools written by Topoyame Susan Maselesele and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013 with Computer-assisted instruction categories.

Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) have impacted all facets of our lives. Governments around the world have invested in ICTs to improve teaching and learning in schools. Despite these investments on ICT infrastructure, equipment and software to improve education in many countries, ICT adoption and integration in teaching and learning have been limited. This dissertation explores what and how ICTs are integrated in Botswana senior secondary school teaching and learning activities. This research investigates, analyses, and interprets data to delineate the factors that prevent teachers' use of ICTs in teaching and learning processes. The research study reviews factors that encourage teachers' use of ICTs in teaching and learning processes and also teacher-level, school-level and system-level factors that prevent teachers from integrating ICTs in teaching and learning processes are also reviewed. Activity Theory is used as an underpinning theory for this study, mainly because it is an interpretive research approach that presents a framework within which to analyse the actions of people as they socially interact with each other in an effort to achieve a desired outcome. In this study, the desired outcome is the optimal use of ICTs to enhance teaching and learning activities.

Draft From The Computer Lab To The Classroom A Case Study On The Nature Of Technology Integration In A Social Studies Methods Course With Preservice Teachers written by and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2003 with categories.

The purpose of the study was a case study on the nature of technology integration in a social studies methods course and its impact on the practices of preservice teachers during the course and during their practica experiences. The study was conducted with seven preservice teachers and the methods instructor. The case study addressed the following areas: the constructivist integration of technology, the impact of instructor's modeling behavior on preservice teachers' attitudes and practices toward information technology, factors that influenced preservice teachers' attitudes toward using information technology, factors that promoted preservice teachers' integration of technology during their practica experiences, factors that hindered preservice teachers' integration of technology during their practica experiences, and the impact of technology integration on the basic computer skill levels of preservice teachers. Data were collected through observations, document analysis, formal and informal interviews and questionnaires. Data were coded and analyzed using the constant comparative method and descriptive statistics. The descriptive statistics design was used to enrich the case study data. The data on the constructivist integration show that the instructor integrated components of the proposed constructivist model developed by Ewing et al. (1998) for the WWW STARS Project. Using the Teachers' Attitude Toward Computer (TAC) scale, there was no noteworthy difference between the pre-course and post-course scores of preservice teachers' attitudes toward computer. The case study data show that the main reason why the descriptive statistics data were not noteworthy was that all the preservice teachers had positive attitudes toward computer at the beginning of the course and the course reinforced that positive attitude. Using the Teachers' Attitude Toward Information Technology, there was no noteworthy difference in the pre-course and post-course scores of preservice teach.
