Según el geógrafo y politólogo sueco Karl Haushofer, la geopolítica es la conciencia geográfica del Estado, porque proporciona la materia prima, de donde el hombre de Estado y de espíritu creador obtiene su obra de arte. La esencia de la geopolítica se enfoca en el estudio de las influencias, que determinados factores geográficos ejercen sobre la política externa e interna de los pueblos y Estados. En esencia, todas las guerras han gravitado alrededor de intereses y objetivos geopolíticos, acordes con los entornos políticos, religiosos, militares y científicos de cada etapa de la historia de la humanidad. Por lo tanto, sin importar su orientación ideológica, el terrorismo del siglo XXI, no es la excepción, porque es una guerra asimétrica con objetivos estratégicos. En ese orden de ideas, si la geopolítica implica la existencia de un terreno como base geográfica sólida correlativa con una ideología política sustentada en un plan estratégico, para diseminar una línea cultural de pensamiento y acción; entonces el terrorismo islámico, justificado por sus gestores para construir con la Umma (comunidad islámica) un califato universal; es una versión novedosa de proyección geopolítica, dentro de una ciencia nueva, que se relaciona con la estrategia, la defensa nacional, y lo que Samuel Huntington denominó el choque de civilizaciones, por irreparables diferencias culturales y religiosas. El terrorismo islámico tiene profundas connotaciones geopolíticas, porque articula la territorialidad del sagrado suelo del islam con el funda-mentalismo yihadista, para iniciar la difusión hacia el resto del planeta, de los credos del profeta Mahoma con base en el wahabismo sunita o el integrismo chiita, con el fin de convertir a su credo extremista, a los llamados infieles de otras religiones o los apóstatas musulmanes que no abrazan el islamismo yihadista. El terrorismo afecta amplios espacios geopolíticos, porque por regla general las acciones terroristas apuntan contra objetivos político-estratégicos de alto nivel, afectan con reiterada incidencia a la población civil y ponen en entredicho las medidas de seguridad policiales y militares, para garantizar la seguridad nacional y local. Por ende, la geopolítica del terrorismo obliga a los gobernantes de los países afectados a actuar de manera conjunta, integrar esfuerzos preventivos de inteligencia militar, conformar alianzas y realizar operaciones simultáneas, combinadas o conjuntas. La dinámica de la violencia yihadista en los cinco continentes indica que los principales grupos terroristas islámicos Isis, Al Qaeda, los Talibán y Hizbolá con sus respectivas ramificaciones, realizan presencia geográfica, política, social, económica, armada y cultural dentro de las comunidades musulmanas. El terrorismo es el empleo de métodos irregulares violentos asimétricos contra objetivos estratégicos, que buscan demoledores efectos sicológicos, negativos en la moral combativa del adversario político-militar, con los que por lo general resulta afectada la población civil, debido a los denominados efectos colaterales. Así, la obra Geopolítica del terrorismo islámico se constituye en un texto de obligatoria lectura para politólogos, militares, cuerpos diplomáticos, sociólogos, historiadores, geógrafos, analistas políticos, internacionalistas, gobernantes, industriales, comerciantes, cuerpos de policía, organismos de investigación y seguridad nacional, pero además por la facilidad de la comprensión de la lectura es un libro de cultura general que no puede faltar en la biblioteca de todo buen lector.

Insurgency has existed throughout history but ebbed and flowed in strategic significance. Today the world has entered another period when insurgency is common and strategically significant. This is likely to continue for at least a decade, perhaps longer. As the United States confronts this threat, extrapolating old ideas, strategies, doctrine, and operational concepts is a recipe for ineffectiveness. Reconceptualization is needed. The strategic salience of insurgency for the United States is higher than it has been since the height of the Cold War. But insurgency remains challenging for the United States because two of its dominant characteristics--protractedness and ambiguity-- mitigate the effectiveness of the American military. Furthermore, the broader U.S. national security organization is not optimized for counterinsurgency support. Ultimately, a nation is only as good at counterinsurgency support as its weakest link, not its strongest. Existing American strategy and doctrine focus on national insurgencies rather than liberation ones. As a result, the strategy stresses selective engagement; formation of a support coalition if possible; keeping the American presence to a minimum level to attain strategic objectives; augmenting the regime's military, intelligence, political, informational, and economic capabilities; and, encouraging and shaping reform by the regime designed to address shortcomings and the root causes of the insurgency. The key to success is not for the U.S. military to become better at counterinsurgency, but for the U.S. military (and other elements of the government) to be skilled at helping local security and intelligence forces become effective at it.

Desde el desarrollo del proyecto Manhattan, ambas superpotencias van a iniciar una doble carrera. La carrera atómica por un lado, con hitos como la consecucion de la Bomba H por parte de la URSS en 1953 probada en Kazajistán. La problemática de armamentos no terminó con la caída del Telón de Acero, el descontrol político que siguió a la caída de la Unión Soviética, dio como resultado a un mercado prácticamente ilimitado e ilegal de las armas rusas, provocando su redistribución y su reutilización a lo largo de todo el globo. El 10% del arsenal atómico que estaba distribuido por los antiguos países del bloque soviético se perdió. Durante la década de los años 90 del S.XX, la OTAN creó programas de destrucción, así como de control de armamentos y el fracaso de estas políticas dio como resultado la crisis de las armas de destrucción masiva en Irak, que culminaron con la invasión del país, en el año 2003, motivado también gracias a la nueva llamada "guerra contra el terrorismo" (que inauguraría las guerras 4.0) que proclamó el presidente George W. Bush tras los ataques del 11 de septiembre de 2001 en Nueva York. La "nueva Guerra Fría" entre Estados Unidos, Rusia y China ha provocado un renacimiento y reinvención en la industria armamentística. Chica ha conseguido replicar los cruceros americanos Arleigh Burke, poniendo en servicio su modelo tipo 055, así como el caza J20, de tecnología Stheal, son claros ejemplos de la nueva hegemonía que está ejerciendo la República Popular China en el Pacífico.
