In a globalised world intercultural competence is essential in order to guarantee an effective teamwork in organizations. In this context intercultural trainings provide the ground to develop intercultural competence. At first considering the research question, an overview of the most important terms is given. Then a summative qualitative content analysis after Mayring is carried out. Hereby different approaches and forms of training are analysed and compared. In addition, it is analysed to what extent these methods can generate intercultural competence. Intercultural training objectives can be divided into cognitive, affective and behavior-oriented training aims. The results of the content analysis can further be related to the three levels of intercultural competence, the levels of cognitive, affective and behavior-oriented intercultural competence. The analysis showed significant differences for the particular trainings.

Cultural Intelligence written by Elisabeth Plum and has been published by Libri Publishing Limited this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008 with Communication in personnel management categories.

What have international relations, mergers and cross-discipline innovation got in common? They share a dependence on the ability to create mutual understanding between people from different cultural backgrounds. As organisations become more global, and innovative development more urgent, developing the skills to get the best from difference becomes a necessity rather than an option. Cultural Intelligence (CI) is a progressive approach to thinking about culture that aims to provide the reader with a better understanding of what goes on when people with different cultural backgrounds meet, including the emotional drivers and irrational reactions. It introduces a way of thinking about culture as a dynamic and socially constructed phenomenon rather than a fixed set of rules, and suggests ways to benefit from cultural complexity using it as a resource and route to innovation. Cultural Intelligence is for leaders and specialists who have a commitment to bridging and benefiting from differences, and who are looking for alternatives to the traditional cultural concepts. This book gives an introduction to CI and to the dynamic approach to culture. It contains four themed chapters each of which provides an in-depth discussion of one cultural field. Cultural Intelligence contains numerous examples from the authors' teaching, research and consultancy work. It utilises experiences gained from work on the development of international groups from diversity projects, cross-disciplinary project management, mergers and other organisational developments. The book offers many ideas and methods on how to develop the cultural intelligence of an organisation.

Developing Global Business Leaders written by Torsten Kühlmann and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2000-10-30 with Business & Economics categories.

The widening gap between the requirements of multinational organizations and the strategic and managerial abilities of their leaders, many of whose core experiences predated the globalization of business, has created the need for this book. Editors Mark E. Mendenhall, Torsten M. Kühlmann, and Günter K. Stahl have organized the results of their research—and that of their colleagues in the fields of leadership development, international management, and organizational psychology—for the benefit of scholars and practitioners alike. After surveying current practices to bring the reader up to speed on global leadership development as pursued by the United States, Germany, Japan, and with regard to women in leadership positions, the book's focus shifts to a discussion of effective organizational processes. In the third and final section, contributors analyze the research that has been done on extending human resource management functional practices—such as selection instrumentation, the use of assessment centers, multinational work groups, cross-cultural training programs, and repatriation policies—to global leadership development. The editors define and analyze global leadership and, in their review of the research, clarify exactly what we know and don't know about developing global leadership skills and what it might be profitable to learn. Practitioners will benefit from the contributors well-grounded insights into such issues as the key distinctions between global and domestic corporations, which dimensions of competency transcend internal corporate leadership dimensions, and how global leadership competencies should be developed.

Communication And The Human Condition written by W. Barnett Pearce and has been published by SIU Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1989 with Language Arts & Disciplines categories.

Starting with the premise that we live in communication (rather than standing outside communication and using it for secondary purposes), Pearce claims that people who live in various cultures and historical epochs not only communicate differently but experience different ways of being human because they communicate differently. This century, he notes, ushered in the "communication revolution," the discovery that communication is far more important and central to the human condition than ever before realized. Essential to the communication revolution is the recognition that multiple forms of discourse exist in contemporary human society. Further, these forms of discourse are not benign; they comprise alternative ways of being human. Thus communication theory must encompass all that it "means to live a life, the shape of social institutions and cultural traditions, the pragmatics of social action, and the poetics of social order."

Virtually Disastrous written by Gary Thomas and has been published by assist publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-12-15 with Business & Economics categories.

How do you lead virtual teams to high performance? Globalisation is here to stay - yet no one is really prepared. Many teams tasked with managing globalisation are clearly out of their depth. This is primarily because these teams work virtually and internationally over great distances. The team members no longer sit face to face in their offices, instead they communicate across countries and continents via modern communication media. Leading a conventional team to top performance is difficult enough, not least because of the inevitable group dynamic involved. When the context becomes virtual, this all too often leads to management failure. This book describes the art of leading virtual teams in an entertaining style including practical tips, helpful suggestions, and numerous illustrative examples that span many industries and countries along the four core challenges of virtual team leadership today. Gary Thomas is a trainer, consultant and managing director at assist International Human Resources, an internationally operating HR organisation based in Germany. As many of his clients are international organisations and corporations, he has been assisting intercultural and virtual teams and leaders for over 20 years to develop their full potential.

European public discourse often frames (forced) migration solely as a security issue and ignores the implications of societal diversity for health, quality-of-life and well-being, in both Africa and Europe. The present volume offers an interdisciplinary and international look at the relationship between refugees, diversity, and health, including health care policies, socio-political framework conditions, environmental factors, the situation in refugee camps, quality-of-life approaches and economical perspectives.
