Transnational organized crime poses a serious threat to the international community. This volume, the product of a UN conference, discusses the dangers of transnational organized crime and identifies forms of regional, national and international co-operation for its prevention and control, including intelligence networks, preventive strategies, extradition treaties, criminalizing participation in criminal organizations and the elaboration of an international convention. The reduction and subsequent containment of transnational organized crime require governments not only to recognize the seriousness of the challenge, but also to allocate resources commensurate with this challenge. The authors warn that should the international community fail to do this, the prospects for democratic government and the rule of law will be gloomy.

This book explores China’s Belt and Road Initiative and the criminogenic potential for economic, financial, and socio-cultural cooperation across countries, where some are known for weak law enforcement and high levels of corruption. It examines whether these flows of capital are increasing the amount of organized crime in the newly linked regions and how law enforcement agencies are responding. Bringing together experts across the Global South and Europe, this book considers transnational organized crime and corruption across One Belt One Road (OBOR). It examines crime and corruption in China and its international United Front tactic; analyzes various forms of transnational organized crime such as trafficking of illegal drugs, looted antiquities, and wildlife and counterfeit products; and presents studies on corruption and organized crime in selected OBOR countries including Russia, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, Czech Republic, Poland, and Bangladesh. This book makes a significant contribution to the development of southern criminology and will also be of interest to those engaged with transnational organized crime, political economy, international relations, and Asian and Chinese studies.

Seminar paper from the year 2006 in the subject Politics - International Politics - Topic: International Organisations, grade: 2, University of Vienna, 11 entries in the bibliography, language: English, abstract: Transnational Organized Crime is a relatively new problem that concerns the international community and its transnational relations. In this context, international organizations have a very important role in the fight against this global problem. The most important actors are still the governments themselves as they control what needs to be done to conquer the problem. An international organization as the United Nations can only be as strong as the Member States in its organization. Since organized crime is an international problem all countries and organizations need to work together to get control back. Governments alone will not be able to combat the problem along as organized crime is having an impact all over the world. Therefore awareness needs to be raised so that everyone knows what impact organized crime is having on governments and peoples lives. Whole societies and countries can be destroyed since organized crime results in heavy "sideaffects" such as money-laundering, corruption, trafficking in human beings and terrorism. With the Global Programmes the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, which is the leading body in this fight, it tries to contain organized crime. I picked this topic as it is very interesting for me to see what possibilities a world organization like the United Nations is having to fight that problem and what efforts are undertaken to stop this vicious circle. Organized Crime is endangering the international security. In this context, I tried to point out the efforts of UNODC and its Global Programmes and looked what impact it actually has.

The conference gathered policy-makers, police and judicial authorities and other actors with a view to discussing important problems regarding the fight against organized crime. Apart from focusing on the European dimension of the subject (including Eastern Europe), the conference primarily addressed co-operation with the United States. This book collects, along with a number of plenary reports, texts that have been presented and discussed at the conference during the workshops, dealing with integrity and control on information exchange, cross-border operational activities, international/regional framework to fight organized crime, intelligence gathering in the context of peace-keeping activities, training of law enforcement authorities, integrity/corruption, drug trafficking, trafficking in human beings, money laundering and cyber crime.

Certain types of crime are increasingly being perpetrated across national borders and require a unified regional or global response to combat them. Transnational criminal law covers both the international treaty obligations which require States to introduce specific substantive measures into their domestic criminal law schemes, and an allied procedural dimension concerned with the articulation of inter-state cooperation in pursuit of the alleged transnational criminal. The Routledge Handbook of Transnational Criminal Law provides a comprehensive overview of the system which is designed to regulate cross border crime. The book looks at the history and development of the system, asking questions as to the principal purpose and effectiveness of transnational criminal law as it currently stands. The book brings together experts in the field, both scholars and practitioners, in order to offer original and forward-looking analyses of the key elements of the transnational criminal law. The book is split into several parts for ease of reference: Fundamental concepts surrounding the international regulation of transnational crime. Procedures for international cooperation against alleged transnational criminals including jurisdiction, police cooperation, asset recovery and extradition. Substantive crimes covered by transnational criminal law analysing the current legal provisions for each crime. The implementation of transnational criminal law and the effectiveness of the system of transnational criminal law. With chapters from over 25 authorities in the field, this handbook will be an invaluable reference work for student and academics and for policy makers with an interest in transnational criminal law.

International Counterterrorism And Organized Crime Conventions written by Usman Hameed and has been published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-01-16 with Law categories.

This book delves into the complex world of international conventions on terrorism and organized crime, revealing the inherent challenges that arise when member states attempt to align these obligations with their national legal principles. Highlighting the divergence in national laws concerning criminalization and jurisdiction, the book explores the resulting obstacles in state cooperation, including the surrender of fugitives, information exchange, and forfeiture. Despite the proliferation of multilateral conventions, the author argues that effective state cooperation ultimately hinges on bilateral agreements, as national laws often lack the necessary symmetry for reciprocal modalities of cooperation. The book concludes with a compelling call for consistency in the implementation of international conventions at the national level, emphasizing that states will only embrace multilateral treaties as a basis for cooperation if they meet customary requirements and ensure similarity of laws between requesting and requested states. A must-read for scholars, policymakers, and practitioners seeking a deeper understanding of the complexities surrounding state cooperation in combating terrorism and organized crime.
