The articles in the 2019 Nordic Economic Policy Review analyse how the Nordic countries best can contribute to international climate policy. The articles cover topics such as: How can the Nordics help raise the ambitions in the Paris Agreement? What is the effect of national policy on emissions regulated by the EU Emissions Trading System? Would it be cost-effective for the Nordic countries to pay for emission reductions elsewhere to a larger extent? What role should be played by subsidies to green technology? Should Norway put more emphasis on supply-side policies, that is, on limiting future extraction of oil and gas? The volume contains five papers with associated comments which were originally presented at a conference in Stockholm on 24 October 2018.

In 2020, the global community marks the twenty-fifth anniver-sary of the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action – the most visionary agenda for the empowerment of women and girls, everywhere. While the United Nations is undertaking and concluding a global review of the Beijing Platform for Action, this very report summarizes the five Nordic countries’ Beijing+25 review reports. It takes stock of progress made thus far – the Nordic road towards Beijing+25. Importantly, the report points towards areas of opportunities for the Nordics – where the prospects for gender equality really lie: in the agency of young people, in intersectional approaches and mind-sets and in the engagement of men and boys in the making of gender equality.

The Nordic Model written by Mary Hilson and has been published by Reaktion Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-06-24 with History categories.

The political structures of the Scandinavian nations have long stood as models for government and public policy. This comprehensive study examines how that “Nordic model” of government developed, as well as its far-reaching influence. Respected Scandinavian historian Mary Hilson surveys the political bureaucracies of the five Nordic countries—Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden—and traces their historical influences and the ways they have changed, individually and as a group, over time. The book investigates issues such as economic development, foreign policy, politics, government, and the welfare state, and it also explores prevailing cultural perceptions of Scandinavia in the twentieth century. Hilson then turns to the future of the Nordic region as a unified whole within Europe as well as in the world, and considers the re-emergence of the Baltic Sea as a pivotal region on the global stage. The Nordic Model offers an incisive assessment of Scandinavia yesterday and today, making this an essential text for students and scholars of political science, European history, and Scandinavian studies.

Happiness written by Christian Bjørnskov and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-04-30 with categories.

While many commentators have attributed the Nordic region's high levels of happiness to its particular interpretation of the welfare state, this does not provide a convincing explanation. The Nordic welfare states have changed considerably over time, and Iceland does not share this feature. Instead, the most important factor to come out of international comparisons is the importance of social trust - the ability to trust other people one does not know personally. The Nordic countries constitute the most trusting region in the world, and judging from studies of communities of immigrants from these places to the US, they have done so for a very long time. Also, the populations in three of the five countries are characterised by their very strong sense of personal freedom. These factors contribute to a fuller and richer life. This book ends by discussing to what extent these factors can be exported to other parts of the world.

Foreign Policies Of Northern Europe written by Bengt Sundelius and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-04-05 with Political Science categories.

This cross-national treatment of the foreign policies of Northern Europe—Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden—is organized by substantive policy areas rather than by country, thus allowing most-similar-case analyses of several dimensions of the countries' international relations. The authors make comparisons among the countries in each area of investigation and present details of security, international development, and neighborhood and foreign policy processes. They also describe and explain international and domestic forces that shape the region's external policies. The combination of sound, empirically based data and attention to broader international and theoretical interests allows relevant comparisons with other advanced industrial states.
