Too often students automatically think that an internship is not for them. They seem to believe that internships are just for those students who are in AP or engineering and science programs or for students who know exactly what career they want to pursue. They don’t take internship opportunities offered by their school or college or seek an internship on their own. Internships offer all students a way to find direction for their future. An internship will help them gain experience in the real world, find a career area that they like—or don’t like—get focused on a possible college major, and build those skills critical for success in a career and higher education. This book is a resource for all high school and community college students who want to find, get, and make the most out of an internship. The book gives students a “heads up” on how to: • Use community, school, and college resources to help secure an internship • Get their act together by writing a compelling resume, cover email and elevator speech • Show the skills and attitudes every organization wants to see during the interview • Prepare for an interview by anticipating the typical interview questions • Know what the interviewer is looking for and what to say and do to make the best impression • Take on value added projects once the internship gets going • Deal with the ups and downs • Use the internship experience in their future Get an Internship and Make the Most of It: Practical Information for High School and Community College Students can be a help to every high school and community college student. It follows four students as they find, interview for and complete their internships. If you’re thinking about doing an internship or are well on the way to starting one, this book is for you.

"After landing six different internships and working at his college's career center, Tam Pham is an expert at landing internships. This book easily trumps all internship advice I've ever seen. It's a thorough A-Z guide to helping you start your career before you're thrown into the real world." -Matt Tran, founder of Engineered Truth, YouTube Career channel with 100,000 subscribers and 10,000,000 video views. Landing an internship today is unnecessarily complicated and time-consuming. We've been taught the "right" way to approach our job search is to submit our resumes to 50+ different job sites, cross our fingers, and pray for a response (which usually never happens). Why does this never work? We've been listening to the wrong advice from adults who don't understand how to job hunt in the 21st century. This book will show you how to land your dream internship in a proven and systematic way. How To Land Your Dream Internship is designed for the busy young person (like you) to achieve your career goals without the frustration. After experiencing six awesome internships that has greatly changed my life, I want to share this knowledge with you. This book is everything I know from my own internship experiences, interviewing career experts, and helping young adults 1-on-1 land sweet opportunities. This book ain't full of theory. It's raw, actionable, and full of advice that has already been tested with several students. The young people I've mentored have gone on to intern for creative companies like DreamWorks, reputable companies like Facebook, and startups across San Francisco. Whether you're a self-directed learner, college student, or a recent graduate, this book is your blueprint to gaining real-world experience while avoiding all the struggles I had to go through. Read it and take action.

Most students today are unaware that they can find awesome internships at universities, companies and not-for- profit organizations around the world. Most students don't know that such internships are open to them from the first year of college itself. Even if they do know, they do not bother applying, believing the field to be too crowded. Simply focusing your student years working on getting good grades is just seeing half the picture. Internships, volunteering and practical experiences are what set you apart from the crowd much more than good grades. "The Complete Book of International Internships" lays out a complete list of hundreds of universities, institutions and not-for-profit organizations around the world with paid or sponsored internship programs. It has a listing of internships in United States, Europe, Australia and Asia. Each of these internships has the potential to make you stand out of crowd and shine! Where you are in the 1st, 2nd or 3rd year in college or university, most of these internships are open to all. The author, Aniket Singh (IIT Madras, Apple Inc) is also the writer of the Intern Abroad This summer.

Internships have become a critical credential for employment, and college students with internship experience reap significant gains compared to their non-interning peers. Students who have engaged in internships are more likely to find work post-graduation, earn higher starting salaries, have better retention and engagement while still in college, and are more engaged in their workplaces many years after their internship experience has concluded. Companies who hire interns benefit from a steady pipeline of new talent, cost-savings in the hiring process, and employees who stay longer and are more engaged. Despite the significant advantages of internships, limited information exists about the overall prevalence, the legal parameters, and even the exact definition of an internship. Perhaps most conspicuously absent is a discussion about access to internship opportunities. Are internships an option for all undergraduate students? Do all students engage in internships at the same rate, regardless of the student's income level, family connections, or other aspects of their identity? The current study examined the identities and cultural, social, and economic capital held by University of Vermont undergraduates who participate in internships, compared to the identities and cultural, social, and economic capital of non-interning students. This ex post facto study uses 2017 National Survey of Student Engagement responses from senior students the University of Vermont, as well as institutional data. A t-test and chi square analysis were used to compare means of interning and non-interning groups, and five binary logistic regression analyses were used to predict internship participation. Several factors significantly differed between interning and non-interning students. While all five regression models significantly predicted internship engagement, low statistical power limits the real-world significance of regression results. GPA and state residence were the most salient individual predictors of internship participation, demonstrating that for every 1.0 increase in GPA a student was 2.74 times more likely to engage in an internship, and that students from out of state were 2.20 times more likely to intern compared to participants from the state of Vermont. Explanations for the results are offered as well as implications for policy and practice to develop more equitable internship participation amongst all students.
