European law, including both civil law and common law, has gone through several major phases of expansion in the world. European legal history thus also is a history of legal transplants and cultural borrowings, which national legal histories as products of nineteenth-century historicism have until recently largely left unconsidered. The Handbook of European Legal History supplies its readers with an overview of the different phases of European legal history in the light of today's state-of-the-art research, by offering cutting-edge views on research questions currently emerging in international discussions. The Handbook takes a broad approach to its subject matter both nationally and systemically. Unlike traditional European legal histories, which tend to concentrate on "heartlands" of Europe (notably Italy and Germany), the Europe of the Handbook is more versatile and nuanced, taking into consideration the legal developments in Europe's geographical "fringes" such as Scandinavia and Eastern Europe. The Handbook covers all major time periods, from the ancient Greek law to the twenty-first century. Contributors include acknowledged leaders in the field as well as rising talents, representing a wide range of legal systems, methodologies, areas of expertise and research agendas.

A Christian View Of Hospitality written by Michele Hershberger and has been published by Giving Project this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1999 with Religion categories.

What does it mean for Christians to be hospitable? How, in this age of pressing deadlines and busy schedules, can we keep from sighing with the heaviness of one more Christian duty? Hospitality is often seen as a bland practice of politeness or an invitation to be harmed by a stranger. Biblical hospitality is different. God's call to love the stranger is neither boring nor dangerous. Instead, it is an invitation to experience God in a new way. Not in a way that depletes our energy, but always in a way where two become three, as God joins us at the table. People usually don't expect surprises. Yet biblical hospitality, the call to love the stranger, guarantees that a surprise is just around the corner. The guest becomes the host. Givers receive more than they give. God is seen in the most unlikely people. In the process, we become guests of the most gracious Host of all.

This volume examines the Melkite church from the Arab invasion of Syria in 634 until 969. The Melkite Patriarchates were established in Antioch, Jerusalem and Alexandria and, following the Arab campaigns in Syria and Egypt, they all came under the new Muslim state. Over the next decades the Melkite church underwent a process of gradual marginalization, moving from the privileged position of the state confession to becoming one of the religious minorities of the Caliphate. This transition took place in the context of theological and political interactions with the Byzantine Empire, the Patriarchate of Constantinople, the Papacy and, over time, with the reborn Roman Empire in the West. Exploring the various processes within the Melkite church this volume also examines Caliphate–Byzantine interactions, the cultural and religious influences of Constantinople, the synthesis of Greek, Arab and Syriac elements, the process of Arabization of communities, and Melkite relations with distant Rome.

Regimes Of Belonging Schools Migrations written by Lydia Heidrich and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-12-14 with Education categories.

This edited volume aims to critically discuss in how far the national orientation of schools and teacher education is appropriate in light of increasing migration and transnationality. The contributions offer ideas from teacher education research and school pedagogical practice in different nation-state contexts such as Austria, Canada, Chile, Greece, Israel, Japan, Switzerland, Turkey, the UK, and the USA. They ask which empirical and theoretical approaches are suitable for describing the phenomena of pedagogical-professional dealings with migration-related and transnational demands on schools. In raising this question, they do not reduce the analytical focus on migrants, their migration paths, actions or attitudes. Instead, the authors analyse the global interconnectedness and entanglements – each embedded in their specific national and global societal power structures and hierarchical relationships – and the country-specific and transnational structures and contextual conditions of schools and teacher education.

Even prior to her widely observed 500th anniversary, Teresa of Ávila (1515-1582) was already considered one of the most important authors of occidental mysticism. This volume gathers together contributions from a multitude of disciplines to explore the writings and reception of the Spanish author and saint. Previously disregarded lines of tradition are explored for a new understanding of her oeuvre, which is examined here with special regard to the potential to affect its readers. Teresa proves to not only be an accomplished, but also a very literary writer. Santa Teresa proves to be a figure of cultural memory, and the diffusion of her thinking is traced up to the present, whereby a recurrent focus is put on the phenomenon of ecstasy. Part of the widespread resonance of her work is the image of the iconic saint whose emergence as an international phenomenon is presented here for the first time. The volume is closed by an interview with Marina Abramovi answering four questions about Teresa.

Global Citizenship Education written by Abdeljalil Akkari and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-08-18 with Education categories.

This open access book takes a critical and international perspective to the mainstreaming of the Global Citizenship Concept and analyses the key issues regarding global citizenship education across the world. In that respect, it addresses a pressing need to provide further conceptual input and to open global citizenship agendas to diversity and indigeneity. Social and political changes brought by globalisation, migration and technological advances of the 21st century have generated a rise in the popularity of the utopian and philosophical idea of global citizenship. In response to the challenges of today’s globalised and interconnected world, such as inequality, human rights violations and poverty, global citizenship education has been invoked as a means of preparing youth for an inclusive and sustainable world. In recent years, the development of global citizenship education and the building of students’ global citizenship competencies have become a focal point in global agendas for education, international educational assessments and international organisations. However, the concept of global citizenship education still remains highly contested and subject to multiple interpretations, and its operationalisation in national educational policies proves to be challenging. This volume aims to contribute to the debate, question the relevancy of global citizenship education’s policy objectives and to enhance understanding of local perspectives, ideologies, conceptions and issues related to citizenship education on a local, national and global level. To this end, the book provides a comprehensive and geographically based overview of the challenges citizenship education faces in a rapidly changing global world through the lens of diversity and inclusiveness.
