MANIPULATION. MYSTERY. MURDER. The fact the crime scene wasn't far from San Francisco meant the playing field was massive-too many nooks and crannies to search effectively, offering fertile ground for the underbelly to function in secrecy, and silence. If anyone knew anything, no one said a word-trust was sacrosanct, and repercussions for disrespecting it were swift and effective among their own. So, that was a problem. Not only that, San Fran law enforcement wasn't the presiding agency-that meant no help for sheriffs' detectives who were first on the scene. Eight detectives initiating the case soon self-winnowed their investigative force to four, eventually dwindling to two, and those guys weren't exactly pushing the soon to be cold case to the front of the line . . . When Bellamy Blanchette graduated from law school, never did she imagine her first official case as a full-fledged attorney would land her smack in the middle of manipulation, mystery, and murder. Tracking something she doesn't understand, she enters into a world of intuition and intrigue, causing her to test not only her core beliefs, but also what she holds sacred, and safe. In a perfect blend of cozy and paranormal mystery, Carson Leigh's cornerstone novel of the Bellamy Blanchette Cozy, Paranormal Suspense Mystery Series, delights readers with an engaging, imaginative style. Impossible to put down, Into the Devil's Closet will hook you from cover to cover!

If it's Purple, Someone's Gonna Die is a must-read book for all film students, film professionals, and others interested in filmmaking. This enlightening book guides filmmakers toward making the right color selections for their films, and helps movie buffs understand why they feel the way they do while watching movies that incorporate certain colors. Guided by her twenty-five years of research on the effects of color on behavior, Bellantoni has grouped more than 60 films under the spheres of influence of six major colors, each of which triggers very specific emotional states. For example, the author explains that films with a dominant red influence have themes and characters that are powerful, lusty, defiant, anxious, angry, or romantic and discusses specific films as examples. She explores each film, describing how, why, and where a color influences emotions, both in the characters on screen and in the audience. Each color section begins with an illustrated Home Page that includes examples, anecdotes, and tips for using or avoiding that particular color. Conversations with the author's colleagues-- including award-winning production designers Henry Bumstead (Unforgiven) and Wynn Thomas (Malcolm X) and renowned cinematographers Roger Deakins (The Shawshank Redemption) and Edward Lachman (Far From Heaven)--reveal how color is often used to communicate what is not said. Bellantoni uses her research and experience to demonstrate how powerful color can be and to increase readers awareness of the colors around us and how they make us feel, act, and react. *Learn how your choice of color can influence an audience's moods, attitudes, reactions, and interpretations of your movie's plot *See your favorite films in a new light as the author points out important uses of color, both instinctive and intentional *Learn how to make good color choices, in your film and in your world.

Medievalism written by David Matthews and has been published by Boydell & Brewer Ltd this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015 with History categories.

An accessibly-written survey of the origins and growth of the discipline of medievalism studies. The field known as "medievalism studies" concerns the life of the Middle Ages after the Middle Ages. Originating some thirty years ago, it examines reinventions and reworkings of the medieval from the Reformation to postmodernity, from Bale and Leland to HBO's Game of Thrones. But what exactly is it? An offshoot of medieval studies? A version of reception studies? Or a new form of cultural studies? Can such a diverse field claim coherence? Should it be housed in departments of English, or History, or should it always be interdisciplinary? In responding to such questions, the author traces the history of medievalism from its earliest appearances in the sixteenth century to the present day, across a range of examples drawn from the spheres of literature, art, architecture, music and more. He identifies two major modes, the grotesque and the romantic, and focuses on key phases of the development of medievalism in Europe: the Reformation, the late eighteenth century, and above all the period between 1815 and 1850, which, he argues, represents the zenith of medievalist cultural production. He also contends that the 1840s were medievalism's one moment of canonicity in several European cultures at once. After that, medievalism became a minority form, rarely marked with cultural prestige, though always pervasive and influential. Medievalism: a Critical History scrutinises several key categories - space, time, and selfhood - and traces the impact of medievalism on each. It will be the essential guide to a complex and still evolving field of inquiry. David Matthews is Professor of Medieval and Medievalism Studies at the University of Manchester.

Pop culture portrayals of medieval and early modern monarchs are rife with tension between authenticity and modern mores, producing anachronisms such as a feminist Queen Isabel (in RTVE’s Isabel) and a lesbian Queen Christina (in The Girl King). This book examines these anachronisms as a dialogue between premodern and postmodern ideas about gender and sexuality, raising questions of intertemporality, the interpretation of history, and the dangers of presentism. Covering a range of famous and lesser-known European monarchs on screen, from Elizabeth I to Muhammad XII of Granada, this book addresses how the lives of powerful women and men have been mythologized in order to appeal to today’s audiences. The contributors interrogate exactly what is at stake in these portrayals; namely, our understanding of premodern rulers, the gender and sexual ideologies they navigated, and those that we navigate today.
