The American higher education system is broken. Colleges and universities are shifting far from their roots as centers for academic scholarship into pools of adult infants who barely mature and are provoked by the slightest non-conforming opinions. Their inefficiency is setting students up to fail, wasting students' time and providing little in return. These institutions are now the hub for propagating modern indentured servitude by bestowing the youth thousands of dollars in unscrupulous student loan debt. Instead of an atmosphere of intellectual curiosity, the campus culture is saturated with promiscuity, binge drinking, and partying. Increasingly common, college students experience depression, anxiety, and physical abasement as a result of this environment. A majority of incoming freshmen are now going to college to prolong adolescence rather than to progress upright into adulthood. American higher education is a crumbling spectacle where the level of education, the value of the degree, and the overall prestige are quickly deteriorating. Arguably, the university system is now doing more harm than good. Those who enter the supposed golden gates of higher education are not getting the positive return on investment of past generations. Why has the higher education system changed so little in such a time of major transformation in the access to information through the internet? How can it cost so much more and take just as long to complete a standard bachelor's degree? What are the main failures plaguing colleges and universities? And, what is the future for coming generations for those aspiring to gain an education? This book sets out to find answers to the aforementioned questions. William Pacwa graduated from a four-year university in only two years at the age of 19 during the spring of 2020. Throughout this time in university, he witnessed structural flaws in the American higher education system. The goal of his book is to clearly articulate those problems and give concise solutions to rectify the inadequacies for the betterment of future generations. And, for those who still want or are required to attend university, he uncovers the factors that allow students to complete their degree with speed and efficiency, saving incoming students time and money.

Failure Analysis Of Materials An Introduction written by Thomas David Burleigh and has been published by Lulu.com this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-08-02 with Technology & Engineering categories.

This textbook covers the important steps in conducting a failure analysis, without boring the student to death. A material failure is defined as a part breaking unexpectedly. The part can be metal, plastic, ceramic or glass, and by breaking we mean that there is a fracture face or a damaged surface to examine. Failure analysis is the science of determining how and why the part broke. An accurate failure analysis is key to making a better product. If one does not understand why a part failed, then it is only guesswork as to how to fix it. Failure analysis of materials is a multi-disciplinary field because is requires people skills in asking the right questions, engineering skills in calculating the stresses, and metallurgical skills in understanding the alloys and interpreting the micrographs. The final skill is writing a comprehensive report. These topics and more are covered in this book.

Risk is everywhere, in everything we do. Realizing this fact, we all must try to understand this "risk" and if possible to minimize it. This book expands the conversation beyond failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) techniques. While FMEA is indeed a powerful tool to forecast failures for both design and processes, it is missing methods for considering safety issues, catastrophic events, and their consequences. This new book focuses on risk and HAZOP as they relate to major catastrophic events, safety, and risk.

Understanding why and how failures occur is critical to failure prevention, because even the slightest breakdown can lead to catastrophic loss of life and asset as well as widespread pollution. This book helps anyone involved with machinery reliability, whether in the design of new plants or the maintenance and operation of existing ones, to understand why process equipment fails and thereby prevent similar failures.

Focusing on risk, safety, and HAZOP as they relate to major catastrophic events, Introduction to Risk and Failures: Tools and Methodologies addresses the process and implementation as well as understanding the fundamentals of using a risk methodology in a given organization for evaluating major safety and/or catastrophic problems. The book identifies and evaluates five perspectives through which risk and uncertainty can be viewed and analyzed: individual and societal concerns, complexity in government regulations, patterns of employment, and polarization of approaches between large and small organizations. In addition to explaining what risk is and exploring how it should be understood, the author makes a distinction between risk and uncertainty. He elucidates more than 20 specific methodologies and/or tools to evaluate risk in a manner that is practical and proactive but not heavy on theory. He also includes samples of checklists and demonstrates the flow of analysis for any type of hazard. Written by an expert with more than 30 years of experience, the book provides from-the-trenches examples that demonstrate the theory in action. It introduces methodologies such as ETA, FTA, and others which traditionally have been used specifically in reliability endeavors and details how they can be used in risk assessment. Highly practical, it shows you how to minimize or eliminate risks and failures for any given project or in any given work environment.
