This book provides a systematic review of many advanced techniques to support the analysis of large collections of documents, ranging from the elementary to the profound, covering all the aspects of the visualization of text documents. Particularly, we start by introducing the fundamental concept of information visualization and visual analysis, followed by a brief survey of the field of text visualization and commonly used data models for converting document into a structured form for visualization. Then we introduce the key visualization techniques including visualizing document similarity, content, sentiments, as well as text corpus exploration system in details with concrete examples in the rest of the book.

Text Data Management And Analysis written by ChengXiang Zhai and has been published by Morgan & Claypool this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-06-30 with Computers categories.

Recent years have seen a dramatic growth of natural language text data, including web pages, news articles, scientific literature, emails, enterprise documents, and social media such as blog articles, forum posts, product reviews, and tweets. This has led to an increasing demand for powerful software tools to help people analyze and manage vast amounts of text data effectively and efficiently. Unlike data generated by a computer system or sensors, text data are usually generated directly by humans, and are accompanied by semantically rich content. As such, text data are especially valuable for discovering knowledge about human opinions and preferences, in addition to many other kinds of knowledge that we encode in text. In contrast to structured data, which conform to well-defined schemas (thus are relatively easy for computers to handle), text has less explicit structure, requiring computer processing toward understanding of the content encoded in text. The current technology of natural language processing has not yet reached a point to enable a computer to precisely understand natural language text, but a wide range of statistical and heuristic approaches to analysis and management of text data have been developed over the past few decades. They are usually very robust and can be applied to analyze and manage text data in any natural language, and about any topic. This book provides a systematic introduction to all these approaches, with an emphasis on covering the most useful knowledge and skills required to build a variety of practically useful text information systems. The focus is on text mining applications that can help users analyze patterns in text data to extract and reveal useful knowledge. Information retrieval systems, including search engines and recommender systems, are also covered as supporting technology for text mining applications. The book covers the major concepts, techniques, and ideas in text data mining and information retrieval from a practical viewpoint, and includes many hands-on exercises designed with a companion software toolkit (i.e., MeTA) to help readers learn how to apply techniques of text mining and information retrieval to real-world text data and how to experiment with and improve some of the algorithms for interesting application tasks. The book can be used as a textbook for a computer science undergraduate course or a reference book for practitioners working on relevant problems in analyzing and managing text data.

Text-to-Speech Synthesis provides a complete, end-to-end account of the process of generating speech by computer. Giving an in-depth explanation of all aspects of current speech synthesis technology, it assumes no specialised prior knowledge. Introductory chapters on linguistics, phonetics, signal processing and speech signals lay the foundation, with subsequent material explaining how this knowledge is put to use in building practical systems that generate speech. Including coverage of the very latest techniques such as unit selection, hidden Markov model synthesis, and statistical text analysis, explanations of the more traditional techniques such as format synthesis and synthesis by rule are also provided. Weaving together the various strands of this multidisciplinary field, the book is designed for graduate students in electrical engineering, computer science, and linguistics. It is also an ideal reference for practitioners in the fields of human communication interaction and telephony.

- A unique approach demonstrates the connections between "literary" and "nonliterary" texts. In its four chapters, Text Book reveals and explores the features of texts -- such as narrative, metaphor, and intertextuality -- that literature and ordinary spoken and written language share. Understanding these features makes students better readers and more confident interpreters of both literature and life; using them makes students more creative thinkers and more venturesome writers in their introductory literature and writing courses.- A wide variety of readings provides numerous examples of key textual features. Playing off an adventurous choice of 20 stories, 23 poems, and four plays -- the traditional literary genres -- and many inviting "nonliterary" selections (including anecdotes, parables, autobiographical excerpts, fairy tales, and advertisements) highlight common features and practices of written texts. One hundred and two exciting pieces in all exemplify important composing processes such as revision and metaphor. Works include Paul Auster's "Tell Me a Story, " Susan Griffin's A Chorus of Stones, and many more. Text Book has enough readings to stand alone--yet can easily be supplemented with other texts.- Stimulating assignments prompt students to generate their own analytical and imaginative texts. The discussion and writing prompts after each reading -- such as "Revising Anecdote to Story" -- provide more than 300 proven assignments that enab

Text And Image written by John Bateman and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-05-30 with Language Arts & Disciplines categories.

Text and image are used together in an increasingly flexible fashion and many disciplines and areas of study are now attempting to understand how these combinations work. This introductory textbook explores and analyses the various approaches to multimodality and offers a broad, interdisciplinary survey of all aspects of the text-image relation. It leads students into detailed discussion concerning a number of approaches that are used. It also brings out their strengths and weaknesses using illustrative example analyses and raises explicit research questions to reinforce learning. Throughout the book, John Bateman looks at a wide range of perspectives: socio-semiotics, visual communication, psycholinguistic approaches to discourse, rhetorical approaches to advertising and visual persuasion, and cognitive metaphor theory. Applications of the styles of analyses presented are discussed for a variety of materials, including advertisements, picture books, comics and textbooks. Requiring no prior knowledge of the area, this is an accessible text for all students studying text and image or multimodality within English Language and Linguistics, Media and Communication Studies, Visual and Design Studies.
