Essay from the year 2014 in the subject Didactics - E-Learning, grade: 10, University of Macedonia, language: English, abstract: This study investigates the second generation of the World Wide Web, called Web 2.0. The revolution of Web 2.0 over Web 1.0 was that it allowed Internet users not to be passive recipients. who simply read the digital content of a web page, but enabled them to add digital content, share information, and collaborate online. The blast of Web 2.0 is therefore largely based on the electronic sharing of knowledge and information. In this paper the basic features of Web 2.0, its basic services, functions and tools will be firstly described. Next, concepts such as social networking services and social networks will be analyzed and the application of Web 2.0 in education, as well as the benefits it can bring will be studied. In conclusion, a summary of the possibilities of Web 2.0 is made and the advantages, disadvantages and its role in the educational process are presented through a critical point of view. One of the major differences between Web 2.0 and the traditional World Wide Web is the greater collaboration between Internet users and other users such as digital service providers and businesses. While Web 1.0 was software organized around pages, technologies, and businesses, Web 2.0 was organized around ordinary people and services. In the Web 1.0 era, internet users had the ability to read the digital content of a web page but could not create their own since the only person who could update the web page content was its webmaster. In other words, we would say that Web 1.0 was not oriented towards the creation of digital content by internet users.

In recent years, the use of Web-mediated digital technologies has constantly grown in importance, reshaping the communication landscape in all professional activities. Web 2.0 applications and platforms have evolved dramatically, exceeding all expectations, and have had an impact on all areas of activity, from personal and social to political and economic. A crucial role in this radical transformation has been played by social media, i.e. online resources enabling users to connect, interact, and share contents. They have changed social relations profoundly on an individual level, but also in their professional dimensions, transforming the dynamics of how professionals work, share knowledge and relate to each other and to their clients. This book explores online professional blogging and networking platforms, discussing methodological issues involved in analysing webmediated professional communication in a genre- and discourse- analytical perspective, with a focus on the structural and textual properties of genres on the Internet. The discursive objects investigated include professional weblogs, and in particular law blogs, professional groups on Facebook and LinkedIn, and LinkedIn job ads. Among the aspects examined are continuity with pre-existing traditional genres, generic integrity, and the debated status of social networking sites as platform users’ communities of practice.

Master's Thesis from the year 2011 in the subject Law - Media, Multimedia Law, Copyright, grade: 14/20, Leuven Catholic University (The Centre for Advanced Legal Studies (C.A.L.S.)), course: International & European Copyright Law, language: English, abstract: This paper aims to propose alternative approaches to online copyright management in the music industry. To do so, it first introduces the concept of Web 2.0 and discusses its relevance to online copyright infringement in the music industry. In addition, current legislative framework both at the international and E.U. level is discussed in order to provide the reader with a picture of the current enforcement system. In a number of E.U. Member States as well as outside the E.U., there have been legislative efforts to control copyright infringement online. Graduated response is one of these systems which is adopted and being implemented by a few Member States. However, there have been strong reactions by user groups against this system in that the system threatens individuals' fundamental rights such as right to privacy, freedom of expression and freedom to access to information. In light of these reactions, this paper argues that the efforts of legislators to introduce stricter measures are futile and limit fundamental rights. This paper suggests that the legislator, instead, should introduce an exemption into the current legislation to protect Internet users who exchange media online for noncommercial purposes. The proposed system allows for a more fair balance between copyright owners' exclusive rights and the fundamental rights of individuals. On the one hand, it leads to a more liberal online environment where individuals freely and legally exchange copyrighted media; on the other hand it secures the right owners' economic rights and thus the incentive for creation is still effective.

In the last five years, Web 2.0 applications - vast virtual worlds, multiplayer online games, social networking, and file sharing among them - have inspired new notions of what it might mean to be literate in the twenty-first century. While previous scholarship on Web 2.0 has focused on its social and recreational uses, this book explores its ability to enrich and transform the educational experience of children and young people. It discusses the opportunities and risks presented by this large-scale shift in popular engagement with new media, and uses illustrative vignettes to document the work of innovative educators who construct new ways of thinking and being around Web 2.0.
