Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2010 im Fachbereich Geschichte Europa - Deutschland - Nachkriegszeit, Kalter Krieg, Note: 1,0, Freie Universität Berlin (FMI), Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Das Verhältnis zwischen Kirche und der Deutschen Demokratischen Republik (DDR) war, bedingt durch die ideologischen Gegensätze, geprägt von unvereinbaren Standpunkten, aber auch von Konsens. Aktuell wurde dieses Thema nicht zuletzt durch die letzte Bundes-versammlung, in der Joachim Gauck, einer der bekanntesten Angehörigen des kirchlichen Widerstands in der DDR, von Sozialdemokraten und Grünen zum Kandidaten um das höchste Amt in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland vorgeschlagen wurde. Die Nachwirk-ungen der Zeit des politischen Umbruchs in der DDR sind daher heute noch allgegenwärtig und unumgehbarer Teil des aktuellen politischen Geschehens. Im Verlauf dieser Hausarbeit soll zunächst das Verhältnis zwischen Kirche und dem Staat der Sozialistischen Einheitspartei Deutschlands (SED) dargestellt werden. Einleitend wird die Frage geklärt, was unter dem Begriff "Kirche im Sozialismus" zu verstehen ist und welche gesellschaft-liche Bedeutung die evangelische Kirche im in der DDR hatte. Anhand der Gegenüber-stellung von Kirche und DDR werden die fundamentalen Gegensätze zwischen beiden Institutionen hervorgehoben, um aufzeigen zu können, inwieweit Konfliktpotenzial zwischen ihnen vorhanden war. Sowohl Kirche als auch Staat gaben vor, ein Friedens-anliegen zu besitzen. Jedoch unterschieden sie sich in der Zielrichtung der Ausgestaltung und der dauerhaften Herstellung von Frieden. Die unterschiedlichen Friedensanliegen von Staat und Kirche sind insbesondere vor dem Hintergrund des Ost-West-Konfliktes, der Situation des zwischen den Blöcken geteilten Deutschlands, der Furcht vor einer Eskalation des Wettrüstens und den Unruhen in Polen am Beginn der achtziger Jahre zu sehen. Die Frage, inwieweit man bei „Schwerte zu Pflugscharen“ von einer gesellschaftlichen Bewegung sprechen kann, soll ebenfalls beantwortet werden, da in einer Diktatur gesellschaftliche Bewegungen schnell an die Grenzen des staatlichen Machtmonopols stoßen. Für die Existenz einer Bewegung muss ein gemeinsames Symbol, eine gemeinsame Identität und ein gemeinsames Verhalten mit Außenwahrnehmung und Außenwirkung vorhanden sein. Inwieweit diese Basis im Falle von "Schwerter zu Pflugscharen" gegeben war, soll im Verlauf dieser Hausarbeit geklärt werden.

There is a long tradition of opposition to war and organized peace campaigns date from 1815. Since 1945, however, modern weapons technology has threatened world wide destruction and has stimulated widespread protests. This book sketches in the background of thinking about peace and resistance to war before 1945, and then examines how public opposition to nuclear weapons and testing grew in the 1950s and early 1960s. Later chapters cover the major ressurgence of nuclear disarmament campaigns in the 1980s. The book also looks at how peace protest has spread from its origins in North America and North West Europe to embrace many parts of the world; opposition to nuclear testing has indeed been particularly strong in Japan, Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific islands. The period 1945 to 1990 was dominated by the Cold War between the USA and USSR, and the role of the Soviet-sponsored World Peace Council caused difficulties for indeptendent peace groups in the West. During the 1980s the emergence of autonomous peace activity in a number of East European countries, and even on a very small scale in the USSR itself, transformed the possibilities for East-West co-operation between citizens to urge disarmament and political change. A chapter examines these developments. Opposition to all forms of militarism has spread in the last 30 years. This book charts the struggles to extend the right to conscientious objection to military service, and draft resistance to particular wars - for example in Southern Africa and Israel. It also looks in some detail at the growing opposition to the war in the Vietnam. The recent protests against the Gulf War are surveyed briefly in an epilogue.
