Claude Monet painted Women in the Garden (Femmes au jardin in French) in 1866. Monet experimented with method and subjects early in his career, and, given its heavy brushstrokes and informal or laid back narrative (which prefigured his later Impressionist style), the Paris Salons rejected the painting, leading fellow artist Frédéric Bazille to buy it to help Monet at a financially challenging time. Features of this journal are: 6x9in, 110 pages lined (standard, B&W) on both sides front title and owner's contact details page cover soft, matte This elegantly simple journal - which will make wonderful Claude Monet gifts for women and men as well as children and themed gifts of impressionist art prints - presents a uniquely beautiful work of art from one of the master painters. A gorgeous new edition with the cover printed on silver. Towards the end of his life and much inspired by Japanese water gardens, Monet spent a great deal of time in his beloved Giverny. Adorned with poppies, blue sage, dahlias and irises, the waters were disturbed only by bamboos and water lilies. His water garden was originally created to satisfy a need to be near water, and to provide a visual feast that could be enjoyed from his house. The pond was fed by the river Ru, and weeping willow and silver birch hung over its edges, caressing the fronds of the greenery and blossoms below. Its famous green wooden footbridge was built across the water and it became the central focus of many of his works. He said, ‘It took me some time to understand my water lilies. I planted them for pleasure.’ and so he began to work on what is probably the most famous series of paintings the world has ever seen.

For forty-three years Monet lived and painted at Giverny and he created there one of the loveliest gardens ever known. For the first time, in this book both the gardens Monet planted and the gardens as they have been lovingly restored by Gérald Van der Kemp are seen together. In his introduction Van der Kemp tells how he brought the badly neglected garden and house back to their original condition. The restored gardens are beautifully photographed by Jena Barhto. In her fascinating essay, Claire Joyes captures Monet's vigor and great love of life, his temper and his famous cuisine. To accompany the essay the Monet family has contributed many period photographs of the irascible old master. The gardens inspired some of Monet's greatest painting -- the "Water Lilies", (the "Nymphea") the "Grand Allée". Seeing them side by side with the gardens as they are now and as they were is a great delight, and with Claire Joyes' text the book is an important aid in understanding Monet both as man and as painter. -- From publisher's description.

The Gardens At Giverny written by Stephen Shore and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1983 with Photography categories.

A Colorful Photographic Tribute to the Gardens Celebrated in Monet's Paintings Claude Monet found inspiration in the rose-covered trellises, the wild ramble of nasturtiums, and the idle drift of water lilies in the gardens of Giverny outside Paris. So, too, did Stephen Shore, who photographed the gardens one hundred years later, upon their painstaking restoration to the state they had enjoyed during Monet's lifetime. Originally commissioned by the Metropolitan Museum of Art to photograph the renaissance of the gardens, Shore visited Giverny over a period of six years beginning in 1977. Going before dawn and leaving after dusk, visiting in different seasons, he came to know the gardens in all the moods and textures that nurtured Monet. "With the sensitivity of a poet, Stephen Shore has given a new interpretation of this garden, which so enchanted Claude Monet," writes Gerald Van Der Kamp, the man in charge of spearheading the careful revival of Monet's beloved gardens. Shore's uncompromising fidelity to both the gardens' plenitude and his desire to present the abstract beauty of nature results in exquisitely serene photographs that express the essence of Giverny.
