And therefore the desire of truth, especially in what relates to the Gods, is a sort of grasping after divinity, it using learning and enquiry for a kind of resumption of things sacred, a work doubtless of more religion than any ritual purgation or charge of temples whatever, and especially most acceptable to the Goddess you serve, since she is more eminently wise and speculative, and since knowledge and science (as her very name seems to import) appertain more peculiarly to her than any other thing. For the name of Isis is Greek, and so is that of her adversary Typhon, who, being puffed up through ignorance and mistake, pulls in pieces and destroys that holy doctrine, which she on the contrary collects, compiles, and delivers down to such as are regularly advanced unto the deified state; which, by constancy of sober diet, and abstaining from sundry meats and the use of women, both restrains the intemperate and voluptuous part, and habituates them to austere and hard services in the temples, the end of which is the knowledge of the original, supreme, and mental being, which the Goddess would have them enquire for, as near to herself and as dwelling with her.

1993 Reports from India of parents killing their children in public because of social shame related to forbidden marriage began coming to world attention. 1993 Admira Ismi (Bosniak) and Boko Brki (Serb) were killed by sniper fire while fleeing the besieged city of Sarejevo on Vrbanja bridge, now known as the ‘Romeo and Juliet Bridge.’ Their bravery ‘became a symbol for the suffering of the people on all sides of the conflict.’ The challenge of young people for rights to options is highlighted by the phenomenon and imperative of romance tragedy within and across cultures. Globalisation brings awareness of other cultures: of their legends and real life heroic stories; of their struggles and sacrifices; and of their social progress. This study focuses on the time period from 1993 to the present time during which romance tragedy in India especially, began attracting world attention through the media. The first pillar of Gandhi’s ‘Satyagraha’ is truth, claiming that openness to, and awareness of the greater community – the world community – is a necessity of peace, both at the family level and for the world community. Nonviolence (the second pillar) is seen as the first step in the path of peace, using the word ‘peace’ here to equate with ‘the enjoyment of good relationships’. Principles for the attainment and maintenance of good relations apply to individuals at the local level and to states and nations at the government level. Martyrdom of romantic lovers choosing Gandhian-like self sacrifice (the third pillar) continues today. Reflecting hugely intense joy and sorrow, storytelling of romance tragedy through the arts and media brings compelling heroism to our attention. It leaves us with a message of hope for the new generation.

The British Conquest And Dominion Of India written by Penderel Moon and has been published by Indiana University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1989 with History categories.

For some years before his death the veteran India hand Sir Penderel Moon was engaged in what was to be the culmination of his lifes work: a large-scale history of the two centuries of British involvement in India â from the battle of Plassey to the final independence of India and Pakistan some forty years ago. It is a masterly account of men and events. Part One describes the conquests of the East India Company in the wake of the disintegrating Moghul empire, and the gradual development of an administrative system. A major theme is the haphazard nature of the growth of British rule and the general ineffectiveness of the home authorities. Another is the conflict of attitudes between those who wish to replace Indian with English ways and those concerned to preserve what was best in Indias ancient civilization. The watershed was the disastrous Mutiny of 1857. Part Two describes the eighty-nine years during which India was ruled directly from Whitehall and the growing demand by Indians for self-government (fed by literal ideas from the British themselves). The more far-sighted has long recognized this as inevitable, though few if any had foreseen that the end of British rule would mean the loss of Indian unity. --
