Lihatlah Sayyid Jamaluddin Al-Afghani di mana-mana telah mengkhotbahkan nasionalisme dan patriotisme, menanam benih nasionalisme itu hingga ia menjadi “bapak nasionalisme Mesir”. Marxisme yang modern, tidaklah menolak bekerja sama dengan kaum Nasionalis dan Islamis. Taktik Marxisme yang baru malahan menyokong pergerakan-pergerakan Nasionalis dan Islamis yang sungguh-sungguh. Marxis yang masih saja bermusuhan dengan pergerakan-pergerakan Nasionalis dan Islamis tidaklah mengikuti aliran zaman. *** Buku ini berisi pemikiran-pemikiran orisinil Soekarno tentang berbagai hal, terutama menyangkut ideologi, nasionalisme, dan kemerdekaan, berlangsung sepanjang tahun 1928–1940 dan dimuat di berbagai surat kabar, terutama Suluh Indonesia Muda dan Pikiran Rakyat.
