Islamkunde in NRW : Geschichte und aktueller Stand Seit 1999 wird in Nordrhein-Westfalen „Islamkunde“ als eigenständiges Unterrichtsfach in deutscher Sprache im Rahmen eines (zeitlich nicht befristeten) Schulversuchs angeboten. Das Unterrichtsfach „Islamkunde“ ersetzt die „Islamische Unterweisung im Rahmen des muttersprachlichen Unterrichts“ (I.U.i.R.d.m.U., seit 1986) nicht. So erhalten muslimische Schüler in Nordrhein-Westfalen nach wie vor im Rahmen von zwei unterschiedlichen Konzepten Kenntnisse über den Islam. An dem Schulversuch nehmen 120 Schulen mit ca. 5000 muslimischen Schüler teil. 12 muslimische Lehrkräfte unterrichten Islamkunde1. Die Lehrkräfte sind an deutschen Universitäten ausgebildete Islamwissenschaftler, die eine pädagogische Weiterbildung genossen haben. Die Unterrichtssprache ist Deutsch2, sodass die Teilnahme nicht durch Sprache und Herkunft begrenzt ist. Das Fach wird regulär benotet und ist versetzungsrelevant und in dieser Hinsicht also vergleichbar mit katholischer oder evangelischer Religionslehre. Ein fundamentaler Unterschied zwischen katholischer oder evangelischer Religionslehre einerseits und Islamkunde andererseits ist, dass die erstgenannten zum Glauben hinführen sollen, während Islamkunde eher informieren soll. Die Benennung des Unterrichtfaches Islamkunde weist bereits auf die Unterscheidung zwischen Religionsunterricht und Religionskunde.
