Islands are unique in their isolation, which allows for a self-sufficient infrastructure distant from the grid that connects most cities. Architecture can then be adapted to an island's location and shape to become most efficient and sustainable. Whether the island is floating or static in the area where it rests, architects can now design the island base which the building's envelope is anchored too. Islands serve a place of remembrance, getaways from everyday life and a personal sanctuary both emotional and physical. I am going to compare the contrasts between the floating and static islands and the benefits of them both. I will also investigate how they are constructed and their relation to infrastructure in or- der to determine their logistical value. Finally I will propose an educational facility, fro and island setting that will serve as a test case for broader questions or sustainability, operational systems and construction.
