Book one of the ANKH Trilogy, the story of Earth's fifteenth colony, 450 years after being settled. It is a water world with tens of thousands of islands and very little usable landmass to build the cities the original pioneers envisioned. Without the ability to recreate an Earth-like civilization, their descendents sink back to a more primative time and create a society of clanboats and small villages. Into this world is born Jonathon McKinnah, known as Jonny Oarboy to his fellow clansmen. An accidental contact brings Jonny in touch with an alien entity who has rested quietly on Islandia for 6,000 years. The two of them start an incredible journey taking them from the past to the present, from Islandia to old Earth, and finally to Earth's other colonies.

Earth's 15th colony ship's two options: perish or adapt. The planet was not what the colonists expected-a world filled with tens of thousands of islands and no measurable land mass. 450 years later, their descendants live in villages and clanboats. Into this world is born Jonny Oarboy, a young Islandian who stumbles across a small orb, an alien intelligence that holds a 6,000-year-old secret, awakening Jonny to long-lost mysteries: Where did humans come from? What lies beyond this planet? Is Earth real, or a myth? The knowledge is a far greater power than Jonny could have ever imagined and a band of outcasts will do everything in their power to seize the technology for themselves. Jonny must defend the orb at all costs to save his family, his people - and humanity across the galaxy.

In Scandinavian Colonialism and the Rise of Modernity: Small Time Agents in a Global Arena, archaeologists, anthropologists, and historians present case studies that focus on the scope and impact of Scandinavian colonial expansion in the North, Africa, Asia and America as well as within Scandinavia itsself. They discuss early modern thinking and theories made valid and developed in early modern Scandinavia that justified and propagated participation in colonial expansion. The volume demonstrates a broad and comprehensive spectrum of archaeological, anthropological and historical research, which engages with a variation of themes relevant for the understanding of Danish and Swedish colonial history from the early 17th century until today. The aim is to add to the on-going global debates on the context of the rise of the modern society and to revitalize the field of early modern studies in Scandinavia, where methodological nationalism still determines many archaeological and historical studies. Through their theoretical commitment, critical outlook and application of postcolonial theories the contributors to this book shed a new light on the processes of establishing and maintaining colonial rule, hybridization and creolization in the sphere of material culture, politics of resistance, and responses to the colonial claims. This volume is a fantastic resource for graduate students and researchers in historical archaeology, Scandinavia, early modern history and anthropology of colonialism

Reveals the existence of a Templar colony in the New World and how the explorer Verrazano, also a member of a secret society, attempted to reestablish contact with it • Explores Columbus’s connection to Henry Sinclair’s maps of the New World • Examines the secret alliance of Catholic Sulpicians and French Huguenots to preserve the Templar legacy • Reveals the hidden knowledge preserved in the Templar baptisteries found throughout Europe and in Newport, Rhode Island In 1524 the Italian explorer Giovanni da Verrazano was sent by the French king Francis I on an expedition ostensibly to find a shorter route to China. However, his true mission, Steven Sora suggests, was to contact a Templar colony that might have been established in Newport, Rhode Island, by Henry Sinclair at the end of the 14th century. In his expedition log Verrazano recorded that his only stay on this journey was at Newport Harbor, the site of a tower built to the exact measurements of a Templar baptistery, a sacred sanctuary representing baptism and eternal life. This tower is a remnant of Sinclair’s voyage to America nearly a century before that of Columbus (who had access to Sinclair’s maps thanks to his wife, who was Sinclair’s great-granddaughter). While Verrazano’s mission succeeded in finding the tower, the colony itself eluded him. His backers then decided to resurrect the dream of Acadia--a place where they could aspire to higher knowledge without fear of Church or state--by creating a new Secret Society that included Huguenots and Catholic Sulpicians. This Company of the Holy Sacrament would lay the foundations for Montreal in an attempt to realize the ambitions of Sinclair and his Templar companions, as well as to stave off efforts by the Jesuits to transform Quebec into a fiefdom of the orthodox Church. Quebec’s motto, “Je me souviens” (I remember), is a reference to this secret history.
