This paper examines the past, present, and future of the relationship between the United States Navy (USN) and its Israeli counterpart. Understanding the USN-Israeli Navy (IN) relationship requires an appreciation of the historical context in which it has unfolded. The first part of the paper begins with the 1967 Six Day War and traces the development of the IN into the twenty-first century. Throughout this narrative, key topics in USN-IN relations are explored. These include the impact of Israel's sinking of the USS Liberty during the 1967 conflict; the 1973 Yom Kippur War, which marked the beginning of closer USN-IN relations, as well as a strengthening of broader U.S.-Israeli ties; and the United States' role in Israel's naval modernization program during the early 1980s. The second section of the paper assesses the current state of the USN-IN relationship and identifies developments in the security environment that could have significant consequences for relations between the two services. These include American and Israeli tensions with Iran; ongoing Israeli friction with Turkey; uncertainty about the future of Egyptian-Israeli relations in the post-Mubarak era; and Israel's growing cooperation with India.

The Liberty Incident Revealed is the complete and final story about the Israeli Air Force and Navy attack on the USS Liberty during the Six Day War in June 1967. Cutting through all of the controversy and conspiracy theories about Israel’s deadly attack, Cristol revises his well-regarded book about the event with an expanded and in-depth analysis of all of the sources, including the released tapes of the National Security Agency (NSA) intercepts. When Cristol’s first book on the subject, The Liberty Incident, was published in 2002, there remained many unanswered questions about Israeli Air Force audio tapes. The NSA intercepts tapes had not yet been released in 2002. Some conspiracy theorists alleged the NSA tapes would prove that the Israeli attack was premeditated. Cristol’s successful Freedom of Information Act lawsuit against the NSA, while resulting in the release of those tapes, has been greeted by anti-Israel sources insisting that the NSA tapes are fraudulent and are part of a larger conspiracy to deceive the American public. After a quarter of a century of intensive research in both Israel and the U.S., researching all relevant archives from NSA, CIA and the State Department, reviewing both formerly classified and open source documents, and interviewing all then-living individuals directly involved in the incident, the factual and documentary record is clear. Cristol maintains that despite the fact that all of the official records and transcripts are now available for review, the truth has proven to be of no interest to those individuals and organizations who are motivated by hidden agendas, wish to keep conspiracy theories alive, or are trying to feed sensational stories to the media. Documenting his findings in six new chapters, Cristol establishes definitively that the Israeli attack was a tragic mistake and presents a convincing argument that will be regarded as the final chapter in the long-simmering debate about this incident.

The definitive account of the infamous 1967 attack on the USS Liberty by Israeli forces and the continuing controversy over what really happened. • Notorious incident: In 1967, Israeli fighter jets and torpedo boats attacked the spy ship uSS Liberty in international waters during the Six-Day War. Thirty-four sailors were killed and more than 170 wounded, many critically injured. Israel claimed mistaken identity, which a U.S. naval court of inquiry confirmed, but that explanation is contradicted by the facts of the case. • Based on new revelations: James Scott has interviewed Liberty survivors, senior u.S. political and intelligence officials, and examined newly declassified documents in Israel and the united States to write this comprehensive, dramatic account. He reveals that officers in Israel’s chain of command were aware of the Liberty’s identity and shows how events in Vietnam prompted the American government to deemphasize the attack despite widespread disbelief of Israel’s story. • Journalist and son of an attack survivor: Scott’s father, John, was an officer and engineer aboard the Liberty who was awarded the Silver Star for helping to save the ship from sinking.

On June 8th, 2019, patriotic Americans will mark the 52nd anniversary of a day of infamy for our naval forces and for our country. The harsh realities of that day will never leave the crew, and can only be assuaged by service to and victory of truth and justice. For on that day in 1967, during the Six-Day War, the Israeli military launched a deliberate, unprovoked, full-scale attack against the defenseless American Naval intelligence ship USS Liberty--with unmarked jet fighters, followed by Israeli Navy torpedo boats and Israeli Army boarding helicopters with commandos. The US ship was steaming in international waters on a cloudless day with flags unfurled and other identifying features fully visible. Two hours of pure hell ensued: For 25 minutes a minimum of 12 Israeli jets from all directions struck the ship with 100s of 30 mm cannon and rocket rounds, dropped napalm canisters on the Liberty's bridge, and jammed/destroyed five American emergency communications channels. Then from the PT boats six torpedoes were fired, one striking the Liberty starboard side leaving a 35-ft. diameter hole, killing dozens. The Israeli PTs machine-gunned stretcher bearers and others, as well as life rafts for survivors. Objective: annihilation of the ship and all crew. Miraculously, heroically, Liberty survived: 34 dead, 174 wounded (of 294)... and the story of Israel's premier war crime and top US official coverup and treason began... ...and has not yet ended. For 52 years, justice for the Liberty has been delayed, hence denied. The official story of "Israel mistook the Liberty's identity, sorry." has thwarted any investigation or prosecution of the aggressors, leaving the heroic victims hanging out to dry... BY THE COUNTRY THEY PROUDLY SERVED. The dishonor of their top brass and government has our Founders rolling in their graves. In 2011, surviving Liberty veterans reached out to obtain the services of a sympathetic, accomplished screenwriter, Mr. Clint Burnette, to tell their story--in hope of seeing it take form with the enormous cultural impact of a feature film. Mr. Burnette worked tirelessly with these good men over three years, interviewing in depth and great detail every aspect of the Israeli attack against the USS Liberty. He questioned them repeatedly to be absolutely certain the information was error-free. Every scene was examined by the men for, at times gutwrenching, accuracy. ENEMIES WITHIN is THEIR story as witnesses of the highest integrity. To the heroic servicemen of the USS Liberty!

The Ablest Navigator written by J. Wandres and has been published by Naval Institute Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-09-15 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

This action-packed tale focuses on a young U.S. Naval Academy graduate who helped create the Israeli Navy and led it into battle at the onset of Israel’s War of Independence in 1948. J. Wandres’s book is the first to record the crucial role played by Paul Shulman in the formation of the new nation, and in doing so, he provides a unique window on Israel’s history and its relations with the United States. Following his WWII service on a U.S. Navy destroyer, Shulman resigned his commission to help smuggle Holocaust survivors into Palestine, and by early 1948, at the age of twenty-six, was training officers for a new Israeli Navy. The author draws on interviews and correspondence with those who knew Shulman, Israeli and American archives, and declassified secret U.S. State Department documents to tell the story.

Flotilla 13 written by Ze ev Almog and has been published by Naval Institute Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-11-15 with History categories.

Flotilla 13 is the elite naval commando unit of the Israeli Defense Forces that specializes in maritime hostage rescue and counter-terrorist missions. To maintain secrecy, few of its missions have, until now, been made public. With this book, the unit’s commander, Rear Adm. Ze’ve Almog, unveils the amazing story of Flotilla 13. For the first time, he offers details of many of the unit’s operations during the War of Attrition and the Yom Kippur War (1968-1973), including the raids on the Adabiya coast post and the Green Island fortress that resulted in heavy casualties, and the unit’s dramatic sinking of two Egyptian torpedo boats in the Gulf of Suez. The author provides memorable first-person accounts of the unit’s complex and courageous operations that destroyed or captured numerous Egyptian vessels in the Red Sea, including the raid on the port of Hurgada, which forced the Egyptians to evacuate. Along with the successes, Almog also candidly discusses his unit’s despair following the losses at Green Island and threats to limit its involvement in future operations, and he then describes how Flotilla 13 was transformed into a unit of high morale and performance. First published in Hebrew in 2007, this revealing account of what went on is now available in English.
