Analyses by the Israeli sociologist Michael Feige embraced every aspect of the State of Israel. He examined the ever-changing and complex identity of Israelis; how they remember and commemorate themselves; the long- and short-term conceptions of time of the left- and right-wing political movements; the spacial concept of the settlers; myths underlying the lives and deaths of its citizens; and the dialectical vicissitudes of the real and imagined Israel. The book contains material from Professor Feiges literary output, contextualized in an Introduction by David Ohana. Chapters delve into the meaning of Israeli signs and symbols; the semiotics of secular spaces (sites of disasters and graves of political and religious leaders); the semiotics of historical time and daily existence; forms of commemoration (of figures like David Ben-Gurion, Yitzhak Rabin, airforce pilots, a female settler and a peace activist). Feige scrutinized communities formed around political cells, the processes of fragmentation and globalization in Israel, the traumas and scars from the Yom Kippur War, the evacuation of settlements, and the killing of Yitzhak Rabin. Feiges scrutiny illuminated Israeli society in myriad ways. He was a sociologist among historians and a historian among sociologists, and internationally acknowledged as having an extraordinary ability to convey sociological meaning and structure to Israels radical political culture as expressed in its social actions and underlying mythology. Semiotics of Israeli Space and Time is not only an essential sociological toolbox for students and an historical masterpiece for the wider Israeli public to better understand the society to which they belong, but a commemorative volume to honour his life and work. Michael was murdered on 8 June 2016 when two Palestinian gunmen opened fire in the Sarona Market in Tel Aviv.

"This is a delightful book, a small gem replete with insightful, provocative pieces about both American culture and Jewish life. I think that Stephen Whitfield is one of the most original essayists on these two topics. Few other scholars combine the density of his knowledge with the verve of his prose". -- Hasia R. Diner, New York University

The journey we propose to undertake in these pages is a journey through time and space. From its founding in biblical times, with Jerusalem as its spiritual heart, to the political and social complexities of the present day, Israel is a country that continues to intrigue, inspire and captivate. It is a land that houses the history, traditions and aspirations of a people who faced unimaginable challenges and triumphed over them. This book seeks to trace a timeline that begins in the pages of the Bible, where we find the stories of the patriarchs, prophets and kings who shaped the nation, and takes us to the contemporary era, where we witness the complex regional dynamics and global contribution of Israel. . Our journey will allow us to explore not only the epic moments in history, but also the lives, struggles, and achievements of the people of Israel. We will delve into the highs and lows, the joys and tragedies that shaped this unique nation. We will also address the Holocaust, a dark page in history that left a deep scar on humanity's conscience, and we will discuss how this tragedy had an indelible impact on Israel's history. I invite you, dear reader, to embark with us on this unique journey. Prepare to explore the mysteries, wonders, and contradictions of Israel's story, a story that continues to resonate in our hearts and minds. Through this book, I hope we can better understand the resilience, determination, and capacity for renewal that shape Israel, and that this understanding can inspire us to reflect on our own role in shaping the future. This is the story of Israel, a story that transcends the boundaries of time, and it is a story that we all share.

At the present time, the focus of Israel's space flight programs is to develop civilian communications satellites, and, in conjunction with this, to begin to work for the marketing of Israeli carrier rockets abroad. NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER * How has a small nation of 9 million people, forced to fight for its existence and security since its founding and riven by ethnic, religious, and economic divides, proven resistant to so many of the societal ills plaguing other wealthy democracies? Why do Israelis have among the world’s highest life expectancies and lowest rates of “deaths of despair” from suicide and substance abuse? Why is Israel’s population young and growing while all other wealthy democracies are aging and shrinking? How can it be that Israel, according to a United Nations ranking, is the fourth happiest nation in the world? Why do Israelis tend to look to the future with hope, optimism, and purpose while the rest of the West struggles with an epidemic of loneliness, teen depression, and social decline? Dan Senor and Saul Singer, the writers behind the international bestseller Start-Up Nation, have long been students of the global innovation race. But as they spent time with Israel’s entrepreneurs and political leaders, soldiers and students, scientists and activists, ultra-Orthodox Jews, Tel Aviv techies, and Israeli Arabs, they realized that they had missed what really sets Israel apart. Moving from military commanders integrating at-risk youth and people who are neurodiverse into national service, to high performing companies making space for working parents, from dreamers and innovators launching a duct-taped spacecraft to the moon, to bringing better health solutions to people around the world, The Genius of Israel tells the story of a diverse people and society built around the values of service, solidarity, and belonging. Widely admired for having the world’s highest density of high-tech start-ups, Israel’s greatest innovation may not be a technology at all, but Israeli society itself. Understanding how a country facing so many challenges can be among the happiest provides surprising insights into how we can confront the crisis of community, human connectedness, and purpose in modern life. Bold, timely, and insightful, Senor and Singer’s latest work shines an important light on the impressive innovative distinctions of Israeli society—and what other communities and countries can learn.

Israel's spatial imaginary, as an unsettled project, is in constant negotiation, revision, and transmutation. At the heart of this dissertation is an ethnographic endeavor driven by a reading of the past, present, and future of political and religious struggles in Israel/Palestine through an analysis of actors, practices, and material palimpsests of three sites: a French Mandate building and former Syrian military base in the Golan Heights, turned into a boutique hotel by a security entrepreneur; the longed-for and imagined Third Temple in Jerusalem--today's Temple Mount--a once marginal messianic scheme currently in revival; and the Jaffa Ottoman train station, reopened as a high-end shopping center and later as a light rail station. Through these sites, this dissertation asks how Israel understands itself vis-à-vis its narrative of a biblical past, its present 'indigenous' presence, and its vision or imaginaries of the future.

You Can Help Compose History before the Throne of the Almighty! Pages are turning on God's prophetic calendar, approaching that glorious day when His Son will step once again into the world of time and space. What is the key to this timetable? The answer is Israel. And the controversy over her destiny affects every nation on earth. In an urgent plea for prophetic watchmen, James W. Goll calls you to join the global prayer movement to remind God of His promises toward His ancient covenant people, according to a targeted biblical plan. He discusses fascinating fulfillments to biblical prophecy, right up to the present day; seven reasons to pray and stand for Israel; and guidelines to praying for all the descendants of Abraham--the offspring of Hagar, Sarah and Keturah--Jew and Arab alike. Join with watchmen worldwide to remind God of His prophetic calendar, and watch as He fulfills His promises to Israel! "Readers of this edifying and scripturally rich book will learn how to pray and intercede for Israel, as well as see more clearly how what we do personally contributes to the unfolding of these eternal purposes."--Dr. Michael L. Brown, host of the Line of Fire broadcast; author, Has God Failed You? Portions of this book were previously published in Praying for Israel's Destiny and The Coming Israel Awakening.
