Secara idealnya, teks ini ditulis untuk pelajar sistem keadilan jenayah pada peringkat pra dan pascasiswazah. Kebanyakan teks keadilan jenayah tentang kaunseling koreksional atau rawatan pesalah membekalkan gambaran menyeluruh yang ringkas mengenai proses rawatan, tanpa memberi maklumat kepada pelajar keadilan jenayah tentang cara melaksanakan proses rawatan secara khusus. Kami percaya tindakan itu tidak akan dapat membekalkan pelajar keadilan jenayah gambaran yang sempurna tentang proses rawatan. Pertama, bahanbahan tentang proses kaunseling itu sendiri boleh membekalkan bahan peneguhan yang baik bagi pelajar kerana teks ini mencakupi asas-asas proses kaunseling sepanjang tahanan mereka, bermula daripada penangkapan/penahanan sehinggalah mereka dibebaskan. Kedua, teks ini menyediakan pelajar dengan maklumat yang khusus bagi pesalah-pesalah tertentu di samping rawatan yang umum untuk populasi pesalah lain. Setakat ini belum ada lagi teks kaunseling yang tersebar luas dalam pasaran yang membekalkan maklumat rawatan kaunseling secara terperinci mengikut jenis-jenis pesalah. Oleh sebab itu, dengan kemasukan teks ini kepakaran kaunselor yang sedang meningkat bagi bidang kaunseling koreksional dapat diperkasakan oleh maklumat dan sumber-sumber yang kurang diberi perhatian oleh kebanyakan program kaunseling.
