O presente trabalho se baseia nas experiências vividas em uma viagem realizada em setembro de 2000. Alguém poderá arguir que, com o passar dos anos, os assuntos abordados já estariam defasados. Negativo. Como se trata de reminiscências devidamente acompanhadas das atualizações necessárias, o tempo não as afetou. O autor ressalva, contudo, que devido a pouca experiência que então possuía em viagens não realizou como seria desejável os registros fotográficos. Daí o motivo de mesclar também iconografia de terceiros após obter a devida autorização ou mesmo utilizar, para melhor transmitir a mensagem desejada, material de domínio público devidamente comprovado. Contudo, inequivocamente, a quantidade de material interessante recolhido ao longo do trajeto foi que serviu agora de melhor suporte com vistas a contar a história narrada. Para tanto se faz necessário dizer que na Itália de então, cada localidade disponibilizava a sua história impressa em um livro encontrável nas tabachi, isto é, em locais equivalentes ao das nossas bancas de jornal. Volumes de impressão esmerada em papel couchê e maravilhosamente ilustrados. Somam-se ainda os cartões postais no formato de livros dobráveis, folhetos e mapas distribuídos nas portarias dos hotéis, além do subsídio conseguido nos escritórios de turismo em cada cidade ou junto aos guias locais. E, obviamente, para se manter atualizado, muita pesquisa e intercâmbio. Elementos que somados, mesmo decorridos tantos anos, se constituem em materiais de apoio muito eficazes para descrever com propriedade os locais visitados. Todo esse cuidado se justifica porque o objetivo não foi o de disponibilizar ao leitor uma simples descrição linear de locais turísticos, e sim um mix da história, geografia e turismo da localidade.
