The question how to turn the principles implicitly governing the concept of truth into an explicit definition (or explication) of the concept hence coalesced with the question how to get a finite grip on the infinity of T-sentences. Tarski's famous and ingenious move was to introduce a new concept, satisfaction, which could be, on the one hand, recursively defined, and which, on the other hand, straightforwardly yielded an explication of truth. A surprising 'by-product' of Tarski's effort to bring truth under control was the breathtaking finding that truth is in a precisely defined sense ineffable, that no non trivial language can contain a truth-predicate which would be adequate for the very 4 language . This implied that truth (and consequently semantic concepts to which truth appeared to be reducible) proved itself to be strangely 'language-dependent': we can have a concept of truth-in-L for any language L, but we cannot have a concept of truth applicable to every language. In a sense, this means, as Quine (1969, p. 68) put it, that truth belongs to "transcendental metaphysics", and Tarski's 'scientific' investigations seem to lead us back towards a surprising proximity of some more traditional philosophical views on truth. 3. TARSKI'S THEORY AS A PARADIGM So far Tarski himself. Subsequent philosophers then had to find out what his considerations of the concept of truth really mean and what are their consequences; and this now seems to be an almost interminable task.

The Philosophy Of Truth written by Sayed Hamid Fatimi and has been published by Sayed Hamid Fatimi this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-04-10 with Philosophy categories.
What is truth in a world full of noise? And what does it mean to live by it? In this timely and thought-provoking continuation of The Philosophy of Reason, Sayed Hamid Fatimi explores one of the most fundamental—and most fragile—questions of human existence: What is truth, and how do we live in alignment with it? Blending classical philosophy with modern insight, The Philosophy of Truth guides readers through a wide-ranging journey—across epistemology, language, relationships, society, and the self. From Plato and Gettier to Orwell and Foucault, from social media performance to the secret lies we tell ourselves, Fatimi reveals that truth is not just something we know—it is something we practice. Clear without oversimplifying, reflective without losing structure, this book challenges readers to reconsider their assumptions about certainty, perception, objectivity, and meaning. It invites those who are weary of curated realities and viral outrage to rediscover truth as a way of being—not a claim to possess, but a commitment to embody. If The Philosophy of Reason asked how we think and why we believe, The Philosophy of Truth asks what lies behind those beliefs—and how to live honestly in a world full of illusion. For readers of philosophy, psychology, and self-inquiry—this is not just a book to read, but one to return to.

The Realm Of Facts written by Nicholas Rescher and has been published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-01-20 with Philosophy categories.
Knowledge of facts is essential for the management of life. Most studies of the subject examine how we go about trying to obtain it; they describe the processes and proceedings of rational inquiry. The present work steps back from this to inquire into the limits and limitations of such processes and to identify the assets and the limitabilities of what they are able to supply for us. It examines how knowledge of facts is secured and consolidated as such, and what the resulting information can and cannot provide. It argues that the unavoidable incompleteness of our factual information also endows it with an element of incorrectness. By looking also at the negative side of human inquiry the book’s perspective clarifies the nature of our grip on the facts that constitute our view of the reality of things.
