"Komla-Ebri writes about what he knows best: Togo remembered and revisited, Italy as his country of adoption, cross-cultural diversity and similarity, the challenges of assimilation and retention of cultural identity, and the struggle of the individual within these contexts. Each of these contexts, characteristic of today's migrant writers, are reassumed in the universal theme of nostalgia and return that is the inspiration and theme of Neyla. With this theme and through the use of various narrative strategies, Komla-Ebri has achieved, in Neyla, a universal lyric quality that transcends the categorization of African-Italian and places him in the mainstream of Italian and world literature."--BOOK JACKET.

Just Another Life is a novel about an old woman, May, who is haunted by a seemingly irrelevant memory from her youth that she must share to find peace. Everything in life is relative, so is it any wonder that the way we judge our life is in comparison to others? May knew some amazing people so to her, her life was ordinary. To make matters worse, she cannot figure out why one seemingly insignificant part of her life keeps haunting her so much that she is compelled to write it all; every conversation she can still hear though they happened many decades ago. Reader’s reviews: This book is a unique and amazing work of art. If May’s life is ‘Just Another Life’, then there is no such thing as an extraordinary life, we can all just relax. I love the characters, and it’s been a pleasure to eavesdrop on their conversations. The story is great. The characters are great. The messages are inspiring. Loved the inspiration; at times I had to close the book and think about things I just hear Benjamin say. Loved it. Unique plot built around the moral of the story, with well-developed characters holding everything together, yet they fail to hold their own lives. Unique delivery of a unique message, yet they fail to hold their own lives, changing to fit into their new environment that is changed by outside forces. Unique delivery of a unique message.

Entertainment Weekly, "Fall's 20 Must-Reads" (2018) Essence, "Fall 2018 Guide to All Things Funny" Bustle, "18 New Nonfiction Books to Know in October 2018" "Robinson offers deft cultural criticism and hilarious personal anecdotes that will make readers laugh, cringe, and cry. Everything may indeed be trash but writing like this reminds us that we're gonna make it through all the terrible things with honesty, laughter, and faith."--Roxane Gay, New York Times bestselling author New York Times bestselling author and star of 2 Dope Queens Phoebe Robinson is back with a new, hilarious, and timely essay collection on gender, race, dating, and the dumpster fire that is our world. Written in her trademark unfiltered and witty style, Robinson's latest collection is a call to arms. Outfitted with on-point pop culture references, these essays tackle a wide range of topics: giving feminism a tough-love talk on intersectionality, telling society's beauty standards to kick rocks, and calling foul on our culture's obsession with work. Robinson also gets personal, exploring money problems she's hidden from her parents, how dating is mainly a warmed-over bowl of hot mess, and, definitely most important, meeting Bono not once, but twice. She's struggled with being a woman with a political mind and a woman with an ever-changing jeans size. She knows about trash because she sees it every day--and because she's seen roughly one hundred thousand hours of reality TV and zero hours of Schindler's List. With the intimate voice of a new best friend, Everything's Trash, But It's Okay is a candid perspective for a generation that has had the rug pulled out from under it too many times to count.

He wants me to be his queen. And he won’t stop until I am. I’ve been hailed leader of the Human Rebellion because I’m stuck with his royal highness, Alien Prince Tauren. As his jailor, I’m tasked with preventing his escape, but that might prove difficult. Standing nearly seven feet tall, he’s massive, with hulking biceps, broad shoulders and packing a huge bulge beneath his loin cloth. I should be repulsed by him, after all, he’s the prince of my oppressors and an alien beast. But strangely, I’m attracted to him. Every time I’m near him, all I can think about are those powerful hands roaming my body. I can’t resist. And if my kind knew how I lusted over him, they’d have me executed. I’m conflicted and torn between my desire for his touch and the need for war. But worse than that, I’m hiding a terrible secret. A secret that could get us both killed. I’m pregnant with his alien baby.

Marcus recently left a senior executive position and is adjusting to his new life as what a friend has labeled him: a Renaissance man. During this period of adjustment from profit- and process-driven, almost manic, activity to a more leisurely pace, he is researching many interests to keep his brain active in order to maintain his sanity. Among other things, he is traveling extensively, with his camera, finding and enjoying many different experiences. He is based in downtown Chicago and from there stays busy by working for some local charities and remains in touch with the world of business through the almost compulsory consultancy work expected from retired executives. This aspect of his life is as near as he ever is likely to get to the state of normal. His friends keep reminding him about the need to become grounded, a condition he never wants to be in full time. He finds travel and writing pleasurable ways to pass the time, but do they feed the inner man? As a financially independent and self-labeled man of the world, he thinks not. He has therefore set out on a quest to see if true love exists and if there is a soul mate out there just for him. He has been close to true love a few times, but so far he has not experienced the really deep emotional connection with another person that he believes exists. He has yet to see it or find it, which is why he has set out on a mission to see if he can find real deep, true love. to record his adventures and emotions, he decided to write three books to help him find what he is looking for. the first book, 21 Days to Love, has been published. It explains the beginning of his mission, which started with an intense and powerful love affair with Tina. That relationship ended, and shortly afterward he met Anastasia. They went on a twenty-one day journey and fell in love with each other a little, or maybe a lot. This second book details his confusion at deciding who he is and where he is going, as reflected in the title--Story Without End. the third book will be written in 2014 to document the outcome of this journey and if he did indeed find the love he is seeking. the travel aspects of the first two books are largely actual and factual. 21 Days to Love includes visits to Paris, Ireland, London, Marrakech, New Orleans, Santorini, and Malaysia. Story Without End contains travel to Madeira, the Canary Islands, Spain, Key West, Grand Cayman, New Orleans, Wales, Rome, Rio de Janeiro, and the Brazilian Amazon. Some of the characters in the books are real, but most are not. They have been created in the imagination of Marcus. Along with the love relationships and passionate encounters, they are part of his delusional quest for a soul mate.
