Detailed lessons--developed and tested in classrooms over many years--build on one another in a logical progression and explore the elements of texture, color, shape, line, form, and value, and principles such as balance (formal, informal and radial, ) unity, contrast, movement, distortion, emphasis, pattern and rhythm. Each lesson also represents an interdisciplinary approach that improves general vocabulary and supports science, math, social studies, and language arts. Though written for elementary school teachers, it can be easily condensed and adapted for middle or even high school students. A beautiful eight-page color insert demonstrates just how sophisticated young children's art can be when kids are given the opportunity to develop their skills.

Architecture Is Elementary Revised written by Nathan Winters and has been published by Gibbs Smith this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005-09-02 with Architecture categories.

Awarded for its unique ink illustrations, this newly revised edition of Architecture is Elementary is a self-instruction book that concisely and coherently discusses the principles of architectural design. Stimulating lessons challenge the lay person and trigger creative responses. New features include a fresh design and layout, 50 new illustrations of recent and planned buildings, and new lessons that update the book for the world of twenty-first-century architecture. Author Nathan Winters explains the rationale for developers choosing to build higher and taller with modern high-rises, and explores the engineering challenges for such giant structures. He also addresses the dangers of such adventurous design in this century, including becoming tempting targets for terrorists. Architecture is Elementary also explores issues surrounding modern landscape architecture, as Winters looks at the impact of green design and cities that seek to reclaim useless spaces (such as inactive railroad lines), converting them into parks for urban use. He also explores the financial and economic benefits of beautified landscape. The new layout, new lesson materials, and current examples of future thinking in the world of architecture make this a must-have for every serious teacher, student, and practitioner of architecture.

Developing The Expertise Of Primary And Elementary Classroom Teachers written by Tony Eaude and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-01-25 with Education categories.

Developing the Expertise of Primary and Elementary Classroom Teachers challenges many current assumptions about primary education. Tony Eaude uses international research and the experiences of teachers at different career phases to indicate that primary classroom teachers with a high level of expertise adopt a wide repertoire of strategies and a flexible, reciprocal and intuitive approach to planning, assessment and teaching. He explores why a deep understanding of how young children learn, the ability to create an inclusive environment, relationships of care and trust and teachers who are attuned to children are essential. Eaude argues that to develop qualities such as confidence and resilience, to exercise informed intuition and to create a robust professional identity, many constraints on manifesting expertise, some of which are emotional, some more structural, must be overcome. Drawing on the research on professional learning, Eaude shows that these abilities and qualities are learned over time, through regular, sustained, contextualised opportunities, relating theory and practice, with the years soon after qualification particularly significant. He highlights that the professional knowledge and judgement required in complex, changing situations is acquired and refined mainly through guided practice and experience backed by reflection and engagement with research. The need for supportive professional learning communities and for policy which encourages primary classroom teachers' enthusiasm, creativity and willingness to innovate is emphasised and an enriched apprenticeship model – using a variety of processes, including observation of other teachers, practice, mentoring, case studies and discussion – is advocated.

Teaching Language And Literature In Elementary Classrooms written by Marcia S. Popp and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006-04-21 with Education categories.

The goal of this book -- a theoretically based, well-organized, useful guide for teaching -- is to help the beginning teacher create a classroom environment that integrates literacy development with learning in all areas of the curriculum. The major components of an integrated language program are identified, and the skills teachers need to implement this kind of program in their own classrooms are described. Designed to be kept and used as a resource in the classroom, this text provides fundamental information about language arts teaching. A constructivist orientation, an emphasis on teachers as reflective decision makers, and vivid portrayals of the classroom as a community of learners and inquirers are woven throughout the book. Key features include: * a wealth of models, suggestions, and step-by-step guidelines for introducing integrated teaching and learning practices into elementary classrooms at the kindergarten, primary, and intermediate levels; * a focus on relevant research in language arts and professional teacher development; * true-to-life classroom narratives that model instructional strategies and demonstrate interactions between real teachers and students; and * an innovative chapter format that makes the text accessible as a resource for student, beginning, and experienced teachers.
