In occasione degli 800 anni di presenza francescana in Terra Santa (1217-2017) viene pubblicato questo catalogo dei libri di viaggio antichi (Itinera ad loca sancta) conservati presso le biblioteche della Custodia di Terra Santa a Gerusalemme, che sono una delle testimonianze del lungo servizio dei francescani in questi luoghi. Frati e viaggiatori hanno sentito la necessità di raccontare e fissare in inchiostro una traccia del loro vissuto in questa terra secondo la propria sensibilità e interesse, restituendo al lettore di oggi un panorama articolato e stratificato della Terra Santa. La raccolta infatti, non comprende solo cronache e diari con la registrazione della propria esperienza, ma conta anche volumi di guide alle indulgenze, osservazioni etnografiche, rilievi archeologici, descrizioni topografiche e manuali di botanica. Sfogliando il catalogo si trovano libri in latino, italiano, tedesco, olandese, inglese, francese, portoghese e spagnolo, stampati in tutta Europa e scritti da viaggiatori delle più diverse provenienze. A questa già grande varietà umana, si aggiunge anche quella di chi ha usufruito di questi libri lasciando traccia di pensieri e riflessioni a bordo pagina oppure firmandone il possesso attraverso il proprio nome, timbro o exlibris. Registrando anche questi elementi in ciascun esemplare del fondo, il catalogo è ancor più significativamente un catalogo dei tipi umani che, nel lasciare traccia di sé in modo più o meno consapevole, raccontano una parte importante della storia dei Luoghi Santi e della Cristianità in questa Terra, fatta non solo di pietre e luoghi ma soprattutto di testimoni diretti dei Luoghi della Salvezza. The book shows how the Franciscans in Jerusalem in the fourteenth to sixteenth centuries wrote works which standardized the cultural memory of the Holy Land. The experience of the late medieval Holy Land was deeply connected to the presence of the Franciscans of the Convent of Mount Zion in Jerusalem, who welcomed and guided pilgrims. This book analyses this construction of a shared memory based on the continuous availability of these texts in the Franciscan library of Mount Zion, where they were copied and adapted to respond to new historical contexts. This book shows how the Franciscans developed a representation of the Holy Land by elaborating on its history and describing its religious groups and the geography of the region. This representation circulated among pilgrims and influenced how contemporaries imagined the Holy Land

Dante's political thought has long constituted a major area of interest for Dante studies, yet the poet's political views have traditionally been considered a self-contained area of study and viewed in isolation from the poet's other concerns. Consequently, the symbolic and poetic values which Dante attaches to political structures have been largely ignored or marginalised by Dante criticism. This omission is addressed here by Claire Honess, whose study of Dante's poetry of citizenship focuses on more fundamental issues, such as the relationship between the individual and the community, the question of what it means to be a citizen, and above all the way in which notions of cities and citizenship enter the imagery and structure of the Commedia.
