La inmigración hacia España a partir de la década de los noventa del siglo pasado ha trascendido al discurso literario con nuevos argumentos y voces. El presente volumen se propone exponer una investigación acerca de las principales tendencias en la narrativa actual sobre el fenómeno inmigratorio, así como un análisis de sus rasgos más específicos. El corpus estudiado incluye tanto la producción de autores españoles como la de nacidos en otros países pero afincados en España. Los diversos ejes temáticos que componen este libro abarcan las indagaciones sobre la influencia de los medios de comunicación en los textos que retratan la inmigración, la novelización de los viajes en patera, la imagen del inmigrante, sus experiencias y percepciones de la sociedad de acogida. El universo recreado del que emprende el camino migratorio se perfila con referencias a su pluralidad cultural, lingüística, religiosa y gastronómica y con evocaciones de los mitos ancestrales, que, junto con los estereotipos reproducidos y las complejidades identitarias, son sometidos a reflexión. Paralelamente, este estudio aspira a identificar las estrategias narrativas y los símbolos empleados en estas publicaciones y a destacar los enfoques originales surgidos en los últimos años.

España se incorpora a la tradición de la inmigración tras una década de democracia, al legislar por vez primera sobre la materia en 1985. Desde entonces han pasado más de dos décadas, con unos cambios estructurales y legales, y con una definición más clara de estrategias de gestión. Este volumen quiere hacer un diagnóstico de las políticas que se están proponiendo la gobernar la inmigración: esto es, las políticas de gobernabilidad de la inmigración en España. Este libro debe también ser considerado como conformando un agenda de las políticas de gobernabilidad de la inmigración en España. Se hace un balance crítico de políticas relacionadas con fronteras, división de competencias, bienestar, ciudadanía, asociacionismo inmigrante, derecho de voto, políticas antidiscriminatorias en el mercado detrabajo, comunidades musulmanas, género, identidades, opinión pública, acción exterior, área euromediterránea. Al final el editor, R. Zapata-Barrero, se plantea ¿Existe un enfoque propio de gestión de la inmigración en España? Su argumento conclusivo para todo el volumen es que el enfoque propio de las políticas de gobernabilidad de la inmigración en España es una filosofía práctica. No esta basada sobre una idea preconcebida, sino sobre las preguntas y las respuestas que genera la propia practica de gobernabilidad de la inmigración.

Abstract: This paper updates and extends the Docquier-Marfouk data set on inter-national migration by educational attainment. The authors use new sources, homogenize definitions of what a migrant is, and compute gender-disaggregated indicators of the brain drain. Emigration stocks and rates are provided by level of schooling and gender for 195 source countries in 1990 and 2000. The data set can be used to capture the recent trend in women's skilled migration and to analyze its causes and consequences for developing countries. The findings show that women represent an increasing share of the OECD immigration stock and exhibit relatively higher rates of brain drain than men. The gender gap in skilled migration is strongly correlated with the gender gap in educational attainment at origin. Equating women's and men's access to education would probably reduce gender differences in the brain drain.
