Advances in technology have produced a range of on-body sensors and smartwatches that can be used to monitor a wearer’s health with the objective to keep the user healthy. However, the real potential of such devices not only lies in monitoring but also in interactive communication with expert-system-based cloud services to offer personalized and real-time healthcare advice that will enable the user to manage their health and, over time, to reduce expensive hospital admissions. To meet this goal, the research challenges for the next generation of wearable healthcare devices include the need to offer a wide range of sensing, computing, communication, and human–computer interaction methods, all within a tiny device with limited resources and electrical power. A computação em nuvem é uma realidade pela sua capacidade de disponibilizar e gerenciar recursos computacionais remotos de forma competitiva e escalável quando comparado com recursos e cenários da computação on-premise. Entretanto, a literatura tem relatado dificuldades e desafios enfrentados por essas empresas nessa direção. Além disso, também tem sido relatada a dificuldade na seleção de profissionais qualificados no mercado para prestar consultoria em planejamento, execução e acompanhamento da migração de sistemas legados para a nuvem, assim como na gestão de serviços ativos. A obra tem o objetivo de caracterizar a efetividade do uso de cenários de computação em nuvem para disciplinas de Análise e Projetos de Sistemas e Sistemas Operacionais, de cursos de graduação em Computação. Essas disciplinas são consideradas estratégicas para a formação de profissionais na área. Contempla as abordagens: aprendizagem ativa com sala de aula invertida, Goal Question Metric (GQM) e pesquisa-ação para a realização do estudo empírico em sala de aula. Os resultados obtidos apresentam evidências iniciais de que recursos de computação em nuvem integrados aos conteúdos das disciplinas contribuíram para que os alunos apresentassem um índice razoável de qualificação. Somente 57% das turmas se sentiram motivada/comprometida, 59% participaram das atividades de aprendizagem, com média 6 (seis) de aproveitamento.
