The subject of this two part work is the acquisition of language structure in which the development of syntax and morphology is examined by investigations on children without language problems and on children with developmental dysphasia. The author uses a comparative acquisition study to provide insights into the structure and development of the language acquisition device, which cannot be obtained by isolated analysis of only one type of learning. The theoretical framework used for the investigations is the learnability theory, in which acquisition models are proposed which are heavily influenced by theoretical linguistics. Part I shows how child grammar acquisition can be explained in the framework of learnability theory and Part II deals with deficiencies in normal grammar acquisition using the learnability theory.

The peace treaties of Versailles, Saint-Germain and Trianon, with their provisions on new borders, mainly affected the situation in Central Europe. At the same time, however, it was in this region that the limits of their principles and applicability became most evident. This was particularly evident in the areas of border guarantees, the settlements of territorial disputes, the regulations of minority rights and the ideal of national self-determination. The volume analyzes how these contradictions appeared and how they were treated in both an internal, Central European, and an external perspective. It focuses more on the medium-term implications of further development than on the course of peace negotiations. It is on the strategies and visions of the future arrangement during and especially after the peace negotiations. Contributors from Albania, Austria, the Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, Poland, Slovakia, Russia and the United States examine, on the one hand, the strategies and discourses of the actors of individual national societies, but on the other hand apply a comparative and transnational approach. They deal with both the “great” actors of history (such as diplomats, politicians, intellectual elites) and the structural conditions of the functioning of the “Versailles system”.

Some sequences of verbs can display systematic ambiguities in meaning. Accent patterns are among the means for disambiguating them. The study based on presentations given at the 19th International Conference on Turkish Linguistics (ICTL), held August 17-19, 2018, at Nazarbayev University, Astana, Kazakhstan, which was the first conference of this kind in Central Asia presents a comprehensive analysis of ambiguous verb sequences and ways of teasing them apart, an issue that has never before been addressed in the typological literature. It consists of seventeen contributions focusing on data from the Transeurasian languages Turkic, Japanese and Korean, and a Tungusic variety. The studies demonstrate strong typological similarities between these languages. The introductory chapter succinctly presents Lars Johanson's theoretical framework and terminology, which are applied by the authors. Alexandra Y. Aikhenvald reviews verb sequences from a broad typological perspective. Martine Robbeets studies the coincidence of intraterminal and postterminal readings in certain converb constructions across the Transeurasian languages. Ten papers deal with Turkic varieties such as Turkish dialects, a Volga-Turkic variety of the 17th century, Kazakh, Yakut, Dolgan, Siberian Turkic, Noghay, Salar, and Uyghur. Complex predicates are analyzed in an endangered Tungusic variety, Uilta (Orok). One chapter deals with Korean, and another with Fukuoka Japanese. The final contribution, on Ladakhi (a Tibetic language), demonstrates the broader areal distribution of ambiguous verb sequences.
