Este ahora clásico personaje, del cual hay tofda una saga de libros, comenzó su carrera como burócrataen el servicio secreto angoleño gracias las influencias de su primo, miembro de una familia tradicional angoleña. Sumido en el tedio burocrático —pero gran lector de novelas policiacas—, logra dar una vuelta a la tuerca de su cotidianidad y consigue un caso en aparencia absurdo al que torna misterioso y posteriormente crucial. De la mano de esta investigación y de la perspicaz visión de Bunda, esta novela es una parábola de la estuctura social de Angola y, a la vez, una sátira sobre las pretenciones primermundistas de la sociedad poscolonial. Asimismo, es una de las primeras obras en desprenderse de la dominación deontológica instaurada en la creación literaria y artística de muchos países africanos en las postrimerías de las guerras coloniales.
