In this work, Arie W. Zwiep examines the gospel stories of the raising of Jairus's daughter and the healing of the haemorrhaging woman (Mark 5:21-43; Matt 9:18-26; Luke 8:40-56) from a plurality of (sometimes conflicting) interpretive strategies to demonstrate the need and fruitfulness of a multi-perspectival exegetical approach. Among the various (diachronic and synchronic) methods that are being applied in this study are philological criticism, form criticism and structural analysis, tradition- and redaction criticism, orality studies and performance criticism, narrative analysis, textual criticism and the study of intertextuality. Such a comprehensive approach, it is argued, leads to an increased knowledge and a deepened understanding of the ancient texts in question and to a sharpened awareness of the applicability of current scholarly research instruments to unlock documents from the past.

Jairus was written to help those studying the Word of God. God gave us our imaginations to help build our faith; the enemy uses our imaginations to work against our faith and effectively stop our prayers from being answered. Jairus provides a bible based example of how to use your imagination to fuel your faith and receive the things of God that you are believing God for - just like Jairus and the woman with the issue of blood did.

Their lives nonetheless mirror each other in subtle ways and finally intersect in modern Israel. Aviel, a scribe in first-century Israel, has a gift and a secret that, millennia later, will affect the choices of Anna Washington, a modern rock climbing woman searching for her heart's direction. Colorful characters and striking detail combine in this tale of passion and integrity from midrashic novelist Patti Rutka.

Jairus’s Daughter and the Female Body in Mark demonstrates that ubiquitous and significant depictions of children in the literature and material culture of the first century CE shaped the mindsets of the Gospel of Mark’s original audience. Through a detailed analysis of the story of Jairus’s daughter in Mark 5 and of the archaeological remains depicting female children, Janine E. Luttick reveals how ancient hearers of this story encountered an image of a female child that communicated ideas of hope to Jesus’s followers and in turn how readers today can understand the authority of Jesus, the domestic structures of early Christianity, and the suffering and loss experienced by some early Christians.

This novel is a rich exploration of two New Testament healings: the bleeding woman who touched the hem of Jesus's garment and the daughter of Jairus the Pharisee. The Gospel of Luke (8:40aEUR"48) sets the miracles on the same day as Jesus and a crowd make their way to the house of Jairus. Could there be a connection between the woman who has bled for twelve years and the twelve-year-old girl who has died? If so, how are they related? What desperation drives the weakened woman to push through the crowd and emboldens her to touch the hem of Jesus? What compels a strict, faithful Pharisee to step outside the confines of his beliefs and risk ridicule and shunning from his neighbors to seek help from a questionable, itinerant rabbi? How does life change for them after the women are healed? This moving story has emerged from the author's knowledge of and reflection on scripture along with careful research into the time and place of the event. Characters come to life as their stories unfold, revealing intimate portraits of life and love in Roman-occupied Capernaum. Ultimately, this is a story of newfound faithaEUR"that of Jairus and the members of his household as their belief in God's love and mercy is tested and transformed through the miracles of Jesus. The author has made every effort to present an accurate account of first-century life in Galilee during the lifetime of Jesus and the early years of Christian conversion that followed His resurrection. Anyone who has struggled with doubt and whose own faith has been tested will be inspired to learn how the members of a single household came to believe in miracles! Jairus' story appears in three of the Gospels of the New Testament. This book uses the story line presented in the Gospels and then broadens the perspective with fictional narrative. The thoughts, emotions, and circumstances of the main characters- Jesus, Jairus, and the lady with the issue of blood are viewed before, during, and after the episode that is presented in the Bible. Insight is put forth as to how the characters reached the point in their lives that caused them to take the actions that they did. Jairus is a story filled with love, conflict, faith, and risk.
