Designed by Dutch architect Jan de Jong as his private residence and workplace, the Huis Jan de Jong in Schaijk is a true example of the Bossche School of architecture, and has remained an icon of 20th-century residential modernism in the Netherlands ever since its completion in the late 1960s. Lovingly portrayed by architectural photographer Kim Zwarts, the house and its studio come alive in this book through refined qualities of light and natural shading. Caroline Voet and Hilde de Haan also contribute an essay in which they describe the house against its historical and stylistic backgrounds.

Architectonic Space written by Hans van der Laan and has been published by BRILL this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1983 with Architecture categories.

Architectonic Space is the most complete and coherent treatise on the nature, purpose and meaning of architecture that has so far been attempted. It is the product of its author's lifetime pursuit of an idea that has haunted him from childhood: a search for the archetypal basis of the act of building.Seeing architecture not merely as the expression, but as the precondition of human culture, Hans van der Laan believes that its principles must be sought within architecture itself, rather than in technological, social or ideological factors. His buildings and writings stand out like tablets of stone amid the prevailing uncertainty and opportunism. The style and method of his book its rational building up of an argument founded on simple everyday experience remind one forcibly of the early Greek thinkers, just as Van der Laan's architecture recalls the houses and cities of the ancient world.

Painting And Publishing As Cultural Industries written by Claartje Rasterhoff and has been published by Amsterdam University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-07-11 with Art categories.

Painting and Publishing as Cultural Industries, 1580-1800 addresses how a small country like the Dutch Republic could become a major player in the creation of cultural goods during the Golden Age. On the basis of quantitative and qualitative sources from art history and book history, Claartje Rasterhoff traces the evolution of the painting and publishing industries from modest trades to booming industries. Informed by studies on cultural industries, she focuses on the role of industrial organization in shaping patterns of growth and innovation. Much like their present-day counterparts, early modern Dutch cultural industries were spatially concentrated, highly networked, and institutionally embedded. This distinct organizational structure helped to reduce uncertainty in the market and stimulated the commercial and creative potential of painters and publishers, for a century at least. Dutch painters and publishers had catered to their markets so rapidly and in such variety, that the exceptional levels of output, quality, and innovation accomplished during the first half of the seventeenth century could not be sustained. As producers came to face saturated domestic markets, they took to limiting risks and strenghtening their distribution and marketing activities. By introducing the concepts of business cycles and spatial clusters, Rasterhoff offers a novel explanation

This monograph documents the holistic nature of the design philosophy established by Tel Aviv-based architects Irene Kronenberg and Alon Baranowitz, where space, form and materials are expressly employed to enhance human experience and social interaction. Incorporating culture, time and place in the design process is fundamental to their approach. In this book, the architects offer a personal analysis of the thinking behind seven of their projects, illustrated by extensive plans, models and photos. Included are the Tel Aviv restaurants Jaffa Tel Aviv and Deca, the Israel Museum shop, Amsterdam's Palace Hotel and Sir Albert Hotel and Izakaya, and Villa Pi.
