The Croatian writer Janko PoliAe! Kamov died in Barcelona in 1910 aged 23. He left behind a small but potent collection of short stories, plays, poems and one novel which have been labelled as proto-modernist, avant-garde, absurdist, existentialist, futurist and even surrealist in nature. Most of his work didn't see the light of day until long after his death. He has been compared to Camus, Kafka and Joyce. This is a collection of his poems which was published in 1907 under the title of 'Psovka' ('The Curse'), a collection of aphorisms published in Italy after his death plus two essays painstakingly translated by Martin Mayhew from Croatian into English in the hope that his work is appreciated outside of his native country and in doing so also creating a unique glossary of Kamov's vocabulary. Many of the themes in Kamov's writings would reflect his real-life experiences and are written in the first person or as his alter ego. During his short life, he struggled to be accepted and published as a professional poet, dramatist and novelist. He is considered to be a highly original writer for the period, despising bourgeois hypocrisy, injustice, ridiculing the social norms and niceties of the day. His work also deals with the darker side of the human psyche, madness, violence, sexual excess, alcohol, religious duality, the class system, poverty and the overall human condition. This book has been produced in the hope of funding for the translation of more of this outstanding author's work.

War And Revolution written by Domenico Losurdo and has been published by Verso Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-02-02 with History categories.

War and Revolution identifies and takes to task a reactionary trend among contemporary historians. It is a revisionist tendency discernible in the work of authors such as Ernst Nolte, who traces the impetus behind the Holocaust to the excesses of the Russian Revolution; or Franois Furet, who links the Stalinist purges to an "illness" originating with the French Revolution. In this vigorous riposte to those who would denigrate the history of emancipatory struggle, Losurdo captivates the reader with a tour de force account of modern revolt, providing a new perspective on the English, American, French and twentieth-century revolutions.

Critique Of Violence written by Beatrice Hanssen and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-02-25 with Philosophy categories.

Critique of Violence is a highly original and lucid investigation of the heated controversy between poststructuralism and critical theory. Leading theorist Beatrice Hanssen uses Walter Benjamin's essay 'Critique of Violence' as a guide to analyse the contentious debate, shifting the emphasis from struggle to dialogue between the two parties. Regarding the questions of critique and violence as the major meeting points between both traditions, Hanssen positions herself between the two in an effort to investigate what critical theory and poststructuralism have to offer each other. In the course of doing so, she assembles imaginative new readings of Benjamin, Arendt, Fanon and Foucault, and incisively explores the politics of recognition, the violence of language, and the future of feminist theory. This groundbreaking book will be essential reading for all students of continental philosophy, political theory, social studies and comparative literature. Both Modernism and Globalization are concepts that oscillate between homogenization and differentiation, each supplying totalizing platforms and sites of resistance. Cultural manifestations of difference and accommodation arise, producing their own specific temporalities in diverse practices of disparate Modernisms. Where Modernism and Globalization meet, the antithetical impulses within each serve as an intensifying dynamic for cultural contestation and discursive formations. The essays collected in this volume aim at the discrepant formations and multiple temporalities that issue from this dynamic yielding emphatic alterities in modes of cultural and literary production and material culture. Discussed are, among others, the following aspects: - Redefining Modernism - Modernity - Modernization - Local Concepts and Temporalities of Modernism - Global Transfers of Texts and Concepts - Reading the Other in/of Modernism - Places of Modernity in Literature and Film.

This is a story about power, power over entire nations and continents. Century of War is a gripping account of the murky world of the international oil industry and its role in world politics. Scandals about oil are familiar to most of us. From George W. Bush's election victory to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, US politics and oil enjoy a controversially close relationship. William Engdahl takes the reader through a history of the oil industry's grip on the world economy. His revelations are startling. A thin red line runs through modern world history, covered in oil and blood. This book is not for the faint of heart, but for those who can see beyond the daily media manipulation of reality that is called news.
