Buku Jejak Artikel Opini Pendidikan Terpilih ini merupakan kumpalan dari artikel opini yang dibuat penulis sejak awal menjadi dosen PNS di IKIP Malang (Universitas Negeri Malang) tahun 1981 sampai menjelang purna tugas pada tahun 2019. Sepanjang masa dinas tersebut, sekitar 500 artikel opini penulis dimuat di media massa, sebagian besar di koran, dari lokal sampai nasional. Beberapa artikel dimuat di majalah dan tabloid. Artikel-artikel yang dibukukan adalah artikel-artikel terpilih yang membahas masalah-masalah pendidikan sepanjang masa dinas penulis sebagai PNS. Artikel yang dipilih adalah artikel yang waktu lalu merupakan masalah aktual pendidikan dan sampai saat ini masih menjadi persoalan atau sudah ditangani, tetapi masih berproses karena belum tuntas penyelesaiannya. Masalah-masalah tersebut misalnya ujian nasional dengan berbagai versi dan sebutan, otonomi pendidikan, pilihan aliran pendidikan dalam penyelenggaraan pendidikan nasional, fungsi pendidikan sekolah sebagai lembaga pendidikan, serta berbagai kondisi terkait fungsi-fungsi tersebut. Sejumlah sejawat dan kenalan telah ikut menginspirasi penerbitan buku ini. Konkretnya, inspirasi berwujud saran agar artikel-artikel penulis yang dimuat di media massa diterbitkan sebagai buku kumpulan artikel opini. Terima kasih kepada para sejawat dan kenalan yang telah menginspirasi penerbitan buku ini. Secara khusus, ucapan terima kasih disampaikan kepada sejawat Profesor Dr. Djoko Saryono yang telah menjadi teman diskusi tentang kemungkinan-kemungkinan cara menerbitkan ulang kumpulan artikel opini penulis. Assalamualaikum W. W. Puji syukur kehadirat Tuhan seiring diterbitkanya buku oleh teman-teman Paguyuban Warga Jebres Demangan. Tidak terpikirkan sebelumnya jika undangan menulis ini mendapat antusiasme banyak orang. Terhitung ada 9 penulis puisi, 6 cerpen, dan 4 esai. Ada yang berlatar belakang akademisi, aktivis mahasiswa, serta ada pula dari praktisi hukum. Menulis ini adalah upaya untuk mengabadikan perjuangan. Usia kita mungkin tidak akan seberapa, tetapi melalui buku ini perjuangan kita akan dapat diketahui oleh anak cucu. Perjuangan mempertahankan hak hidup tentu bukan hanya perjuangan kami di Jebres Demangan, tetapi ada banyak tempat di Indonesia. Di Solo saja dalam satu kecamatan (Jebres) ada tiga titik, di Kentingan Baru, dekat RSJ dan kami di Jebres Demangan. Pembangunan yang katanya untuk kepentingan banyak orang nyatanya tidak kami rasakan, bahkan merampas tempat kami tinggal. Rumah yang seharusnya bisa menjadi tempat berteduh anak dan cucu kini hanya tinggal puing-puing, tetapi perjuangan ini tidak kalah sampai di sini. Selama kita percaya Tuhan berada di sisi hambanya yang tetindas dan kita tidak patah semangat akan ada jalan yang terbaik. Akhirnya melalui buku ini hanya ajaran yang baik yang bisa kita wariskan kepada anak cucu kelak. Seperti halnya pahlawan dulu mengajarkan kepada kita bahwa tanah air harus dibela. Saya selaku ketua Paguyuban Warga Jebres Demangan mengucapkan banyak terimakasih kepada para penulis, penerbit, YAPHI, PMII Kota Surakarta, GMNI, GMKI, HMI, rekan-rekan mahasiswa, dan seluruh pihak yang terlibat dalam mengawal kasus Jebres Demangan, serta terbitnya buku ini.
