In telling this story I am not interested in taking any side. I just want to tell the story of how one small nation and a small group of people have had the tenacity and courage to defy the odds and preserve an ancient culture that has become the epicenter of not just conflict but religion, philosophy and human society as a whole. The history of Israel is not infinite, and Jews and Judaism did not begin as the nation of Israel. Many forget the fact that Judaism predates any known reference of a Jewish nation state. After 3000 odd years, Israel is now such an integral part of the Jewish identity, it is understandably hard to imagine a time before its founding. As we look to the very foundation of the first state of Israel we can look no further than the first King of Israel. Yes, what is it a nation wants after they have become a homogenized group? They want a King to lead them off course! And as is mentioned in Samuel, the people of Israel cried out to God to give them a King. And what they received was Saul the first King of Israel. This book provides credible information about Jerusalem and its future prophecy. This line of thought would persist through the years in many different forms, eventually leading to a replacement ideology that left Jerusalem out of future prophecy altogether. "The World is God's Footstool." And even as millions pray for peace from among Judaism, Christianity and Islam, no matter what happens in the future, Jerusalem has been, and will remain, the center of the world and the center of God's plan for humanity. WHO is this Book for? Foreign students who wish to understand Israel, then and now. Biblical scholars who want to study the history of Israel. Historians and students who wish to understand biblically the history of Israel and the impact of its prophecies to the world. Bible scholars who are interested to study Jerusalem and Words of God. Historians who are studying Rome and Jerusalem and are looking for an answer to the City of God. REASONS to Buy this Book: It defines Israel in a manner we hadn't understand before. This book will help us understand Israel as a nation of God and as a nation of the world. We will understand why this nation had been the Apple of God's Eye. This book will help us understand the conflicts Israel had as a nation, then and now. And at the end of time, the prophecy of God in relation to the faith of Israel, we will understand. This book will open our eyes to the prophesied City of God. This book provides information about Jerusalem: The Praise of the Earth! As war and terrorism continue to rage over the Holy Land, the Temple of Jerusalem, arguably the most famous sacred structure in world history, looms in the background as a symbol of past glory, a place of religious worship, and a site to be contended over and coveted. This book offers a general history of the meaning, importance, and significance of the Temple of Jerusalem, in both the religious and the political arena. It begins with the construction of the Temple, its destruction in 587 B.C.E., its reconstruction in 516 B.C.E., the vast enlargement during the time of the Idumean King Herod, around 20 B.C.E., its final destruction in 70 C.E., and its dynamic and abundant afterlife as the leading influence in the construction of Jewish synagogues, Christian cathedrals, and Islamic mosques. But the Temple has also been at the center of much political and religious controversy, and Lundquist explores the issues and conflicts that have erupted over this sacred place, considers the meaning and importance of the Temple to Christianity, Judaism and Islam, from ancient times to the present, and concludes with a careful consideration of the continuing religious and political tensions. On September 28, 2000, Ariel Sharon visited the Temple Mount (also called Al-Haram As-Sharif) in Jerusalem, igniting what has come to be known as the second intifada. But why would such a visit to a religious site set off such a string of violent responses that continue to this day? The answer lies in the history of the Temple of Jerusalem, which once, indeed twice, stood in the spot known today as the Temple Mount (to Jews) and the Dome of the Rock (to Muslims). A holy place to three of the world's main religions—Christianity, Judaism, and Islam—the Temple of Jerusalem is, arguably, the most famous sacred structure in world history and figures prominently in Apocalyptic writings. Yet, it is almost entirely absent, in all its phases, from the archaeological record, as the sacred nature of the site prohibits any excavation.

A “masterful” history of the city and its holy wars past and present, from the New York Times–bestselling author of Constantine’s Sword (The Boston Globe). How did this ancient Middle Eastern city become a transcendent fantasy that ignites religious fervor unlike anywhere else on earth? Jerusalem, Jerusalem journeys through centuries of conflict among Jews, Christians, and Muslims, right up to the present-day Israeli-Palestinian struggle—with fascinating examinations of how the idea of the holy city has shaped not just the region’s history but the world’s.
