Jesus was a Jew. Yet nineteen centuries after his death, hatred inspired in part by the long-standing tradition of Christian anti-Judaism played a significant role in the murder of six million Jews in the Holocaust. How are Christians and Jews to deal with this jarring historical incongruity? In Jesus and the Holocaust Joel Marcus—a Jew by birth, a Christian by choice—offers stirring meditations on the relationship between the deaths of six million Jews at the hands of the Nazis and the death of one innocent Jew on the cross. Basing his work on sermons he originally preached on Good Friday 1995, a date that also corresponded with the fifty-year anniversary of the end of the Holocaust, Marcus weaves reflection on Bible passages together with poetry and narratives about the Holocaust. He shows how the hope that Christians have always found hidden in Christ's darkest hour can shed light on one of the most tragic events of our recent history—and vice versa.

How did the Holocaust take place in a nation of rich Christian history and cultural achievement? What ideasspiritual and intellectualcontributed to the nightmare of Adolf Hitlers Third Reich? What theological forces contributed to the confused witness of the Christian churches? How do Christians respond to the accusation that the Christian faith itself, even its own Scriptures, contributed to this modern tragedy? What can Christians today learn from those who did, in fact, stand in the evil day? In Christ, Faith, and the Holocaust, Richard Terrell responds to these haunting questions in a work of cultural apologetics that takes up the challenges and accusations that Christianity itself was a major cause of Nazisms destructive path. Here, the Nazi movement is exposed as a virulently anti-Christian spirituality, rooted in idolatrous doctrines that took every advantage of distorted theology and emotional pietism that had evolved in German thought and church life. Here you will find the drama and importance of ideas and stories of personal witness that will sharpen the contemporary Christians sense of discernment in the arena of spiritual warfare.

The author marks the end of World War II as the closing of an important period of history and the possible new beginning for the Jewish people, the church, and the world at large. He cites two events as of major importance, the creation of the Jewish state of Israel and the second Vatican Counsel. He takes a look at the evolution of a new kind of Judaism that is more tolerant and accepting of Jesus as Jew, just as the church intensifies its commitment to Judaeo-Christian dialogue. Only one of its kind: Devotionals for Holocaust-proofing by Resurrection Power. Is there a connection between today's startling rise of terrorism, natural calamities, violence, wars, and the Holocaust? This book plainly says there is. If you ask why a good God lets bad things happen, you'll see how God is powerful enough and loving enough to bring forth the best for his family out of their worst experiences. Israel, through her Holocaust, is revealed as God's linchpin for all nations. This book details God's relationship plan for Christians, for the church, for Israel, and for Messianic (or "Completed") Jews. Its thesis is direct and simple: we can walk together in love where none have walked before. A mindset that can handle the Holocaust from God's perspective will sustain us through inevitable dark times ahead, ushering us into a fresh, reassuring, and eternal joy of God's everlasting kingdom on earth. Pelham Gross grew up on the family farm and studied at Mississippi State ('51) and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary ('55). He was filled with the Spirit in 1962 and served as a pastor, prophet, and teacher in one of the first non-denominational Spirit-filled movements. He helped lead a church into racial reconciliation during the sixties in Memphis, Tennessee. Pelham and wife DeDe are caught up in an ongoing Israel-experience with God that has already filled two books, this one being the third. They worshipped and studied for three years at The International House of Prayer Kansas City under Mike Bickle, and took classes under Messianic Rabbi Jerry Feldman. They stand with Messianics in Israel through Dr. Daniel Juster and Tikkun Ministries International. They now live in Boonville, Missouri and share revelation on www.IsraelOwnsTheChurch.com, [email protected].

The Gospel of the Holocaust is actually two messages in one because the same experience of suffering that was enacted by a singular Jew in the early first century has been duplicated by six million Jews in the modern 20th century. To tell of the suffering and death of Jesus Christ, in a careful step by step procedure, in a very definite fashion would also, surprisingly, be telling the story of the suffering and death of six million Jews in the 20th century. Amazing as it may seem, we can now realize that the Jewish people suffered and died in nearly identical circumstances and stages. To put it another way, were the Jewish historians and witnesses today to tell of the ordeal of the recent Holocaust, it would actually be surprisingly similar to the story told by Jewish historians and witnesses of the holocaust of Jesus Christ as recorded some 2000 years ago. Yes, the account of the recent Holocaust, written with the Jews' own blood and ashes upon the scroll of their experiences, is now realized to be more than remarkably parallel to the story of the holocaust of Jesus of Nazareth in the early first century. Today, all the nations of the world involved in the Holocaust of the Jews stubbornly refuse to really acknowledge, or even come to grips with, their guilt and participation in civilization's most heinous crime. Actually, true repentance by the nations would bring social cleansing and moral deliverance. In a similar manner, the Jewish people themselves have yet to realize and acknowledge their own national participation in the rejection and death of their Messiah. Of course, the Bible says that one day soon they will-Genesis 45:1-4 and Zechariah 12:10-13:1.

This book follows the journey of a Jew who fled Nazi Germany but could not exorcise its evils from his theological and literary imagination. Having spent his early years trying to escape from his encounters with Nazism, Rolf Gompertz spent his later years trying to interpret the contours of evil that he had experienced in Hitler's Germany. The spiritual journey of Rolf Gompertz offers intrigue, instruction, and challenge. It is the story of how a small Jewish boy, cowering under the talons of prejudice and protected only by the love of his parents, emerged to craft a life that directly refuted the ideology that propped up the power structures of Nazi Germany. Along the way, Gompertz came to recognize in the folds of the Christian Gospels the story of another Jew who had stood in opposition to a similar configuration of ideology and power. In retelling that story as a committed Jew, Gompertz offered a robust "response to Hitler"--a refutation of the malevolent forces that seek to dismantle "our common humanity."

After The Evil written by Richard Harries and has been published by OUP Oxford this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2003-07-03 with Religion categories.

The evil of the holocaust demands a radical rethink of the traditional Christian understanding of Judaism. This does not mean jettisoning Christianity's deepest convictions in order to make it conform to Judaism. Rather, Richard Harries develops the work of recent Jewish scholarship to discern resonances between central Christian and Jewish beliefs. This thought-provoking book offers fresh approaches to contentious and sensitive issues. A key chapter on the nature of forgiveness is sympathetic to the Jewish charge that Christians talk much too easily about forgiveness. Another chapter on suffering in Judaism and Christianity rejects the usual stereotypes and argues for important common ground, for example in the idea that God suffers in the suffering of his people. There are also chapters on the state of Israel and the place of Jerusalem in Christian and Jewish thought. Richard Harries argues that the basic covenant is not with either Judaism or Christianity but with humanity. These, like other religions, are different, distinctive voices in response to God's primal affirmation of human life, which for Christians is achieved and given in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. In the light of this the author maintains - controversially - that Christians should not be trying to convert Jews to Christianity. Rather Jews and Christians should stand together and build on the great amount they have in common to work together for a better world.

Was Jesus a Nazi? During the Third Reich, German Protestant theologians, motivated by racism and tapping into traditional Christian anti-Semitism, redefined Jesus as an Aryan and Christianity as a religion at war with Judaism. In 1939, these theologians established the Institute for the Study and Eradication of Jewish Influence on German Religious Life. In The Aryan Jesus, Susannah Heschel shows that during the Third Reich, the Institute became the most important propaganda organ of German Protestantism, exerting a widespread influence and producing a nazified Christianity that placed anti-Semitism at its theological center. Based on years of archival research, The Aryan Jesus examines the membership and activities of this controversial theological organization. With headquarters in Eisenach, the Institute sponsored propaganda conferences throughout the Nazi Reich and published books defaming Judaism, including a dejudaized version of the New Testament and a catechism proclaiming Jesus as the savior of the Aryans. Institute members--professors of theology, bishops, and pastors--viewed their efforts as a vital support for Hitler's war against the Jews. Heschel looks in particular at Walter Grundmann, the Institute's director and a professor of the New Testament at the University of Jena. Grundmann and his colleagues formed a community of like-minded Nazi Christians who remained active and continued to support each other in Germany's postwar years. The Aryan Jesus raises vital questions about Christianity's recent past and the ambivalent place of Judaism in Christian thought.
