For those who find The Old Testament difficult to comprehend will inevitably find the thorough interpretation of The King James Authorised Version a far better read. Although Jesus Christ does not appear in the Old Testament, we can see how he is represented even before his time. This book contains many examples which are translated for the modern Christian and may encourage you to search for the true meaning of the scriptures yourself. We learn, for example, how the lives of Joseph and Jesus ran parallel even though they lived at different times; how they were betrayed and sold to the hands of their enemies.

The Old Testament "stories" about Abraham, Joseph, Moses, and Rahab are about real men and women. The tabernacle, the ark of the covenant, feasts, and even notable battles were all real objects, ceremonies, and events; but just beneath the surface - waiting to be discovered - are lessons about Jesus Christ. Types are Old Testament people, events, items, and ceremonies that foreshadow the coming Messiah and His church. In this study you will embark on a journey of discovery to see what might be learned about Jesus Christ, His church, and God's plan for redemption which were hidden in the pages of the Old Testament to later be revealed in the coming Savior.

Sometimes questions are asked regarding the value of a detailed study of the sanctuary. Why, when we have the Christ of the New Testament, do we need to go back into the Old? I find no problem in the way of such a study. You have seen the beautiful illustrations in the books that are sold in Christian bookstores. Do you think that the artist painted these from memory? Why no! He used many models. Today these models, living and inanimate, need not sit for long hours before the artist. He simply takes a colored transparencies of the sections of his picture by posing the model for a few minutes. When he is ready to paint, he works these colored segments together, studying each part in detail. It is for a similar reason that God has given us the details of the sanctuary. We should study each part minutely. Only then will we be able to see Christ in His fullness. We can comprehend only one point at a time. Jesus is the Sacrifice. He is also the preist. He is the Shekinah, and He is also the veil. He is every whit! In order to discern the Lord Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God, the Mediator of mankind, the Saviour of the race, the Redeemer--King, we must synthesize all aspects of the tabernacle. While we may spend time on one part of His ministry, we should keep in mind that He is many-sided. It is only thus that we will come to understand the One Who is altogether lovely, the chiefest among ten thousand, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

"Jesus in the Shadows" is asking one big question: When Luke tells us in Luke 24:27 that Jesus showed His disciples "the things concerning Himself in all the Scriptures," just how are we meant to take the word "all"? Was it intended to be figurative-just Jesus' way of saying, "Hey, no worries, there are a few verses about Me in that book we all like so much, and when you figure them out, you can use them to write your own book and really get the word out"? Or did He mean something immeasurably more? What if some of the most well-known Bible stories (like David and Goliath, Daniel in the Lions' Den, and Jonah and the Whale) are really just Jesus-stories? What if when Luke used the word "all" he really meant ALL? What if the disciples have learned a new way to approach Scripture from the Master, Himself-having their minds opened to the true understanding that God's plan has been right in front of His people the entire time (Luke 24:45)? In "Jesus in the Shadows," Eric Robinson looks very closely at seven of the most well-known Bible stories in all of Scripture, showing how they are actually just thinly-veiled descriptions of Jesus' ultimate work of salvation. Written on a level for any Bible-believer (or any searching heart), Jesus in the Shadows will give a foundation of faith that God's plan was written down in complete detail over centuries before Jesus' body was laid in a manger in Bethlehem. You will never be able to read your Old Testament the same again. Endorsements from bestselling authors: "From the moment the first chapter of this off-the-hook book begins, 'What if Jesus led a Bible study?' I was hooked. You will be too. Hear the Jesus story as it should be told, from Genesis to Revelation." Leonard Sweet, best-selling author and professor, chief contributor to sermons.com "This is a highly readable book, written to be understood by everyone, showing how the Jesus story permeates all the Scriptures. The chapters enable the reader to see how the entire Bible was meant to prepare for Christ, and I recommend it highly." Grant Osborne, author of The Hermeneutical Spiral "Eric Robinson presents a stunning portrait of Christ throughout the ages. I was blown away, again and again, by the insights on every page. If you've ever wondered how the Old and New Testaments fit together, read this book. You'll discover JESUS in all His glory, just as God painted Him for us, on the canvas of human history. Dr. Andrew Farley, bestselling author of The Naked Gospel and God Without Religion "Eric Robinson has written a wonderfully insightful study from the Hebrew Scriptures, showing how they point to Y'shua ha Mashiach, Jesus the Messiah. In a day when stories are becoming more and more important as vehicles for communicating truth, this book is a great reminder of how God has woven the promise of a redeemer throughout His revelation to Israel. If you love to study the Bible you will gain fresh insight into the eternal purposes of God through reading this refreshing book." David Brickner, Executive Director of Jews for Jesus, author of Christ in the Feast of Pentecost

An excellent book for anyone who is seeking to know more about the living God. The first book in a two-part series, A Shadow of Good Things to Come, is a colorful book of Jewish history, dating from the time of creation with the Ancient of Days to king David. You will learn that God had a plan to save mankind, and He implemented that plan through the Jewish nation. Told in Bible-story form, you will find answers to many questions you may have about the Bible and man's relationship with God, questions such as: - Who is the true living God? - What is the purpose of man? - What promises did God give Abraham and his descendants through Isaac? - Why and how did God choose the nation of Israel to be His people? - Why and how did God set up the law and sacrificial system? - Why is Jesus called the Son of David? "Deeper Insight" study questions are provided at the end of each chapter. "I always wondered why a loving God would bring so much death and annihilation to people in the Old Testament. Now I understand. Sin was rampant, and evil men threatened the very existence of the future seed of Abraham, through whom Christ, the Savior of mankind, would come. This is a wonderful Bible-based, simply-stated study that all Christians will enjoy." Frances Henderson "This is a good book for Christians who want to learn, in detail, about the twelve Tribes of Israel and their lineage leading to the birth of Christ. I was amazed to scripturally learn about the division of the land God gave to the Israelites. If you ever had doubts about Jesus, you won't anymore." Trudy Meriedth

A shadow is "a dark area or shape produced by a body coming between rays of light and a surface." The shadow assumes the shape of the object blocking the light. It resembles the object but isn't the object. In biblical literature, a shadow is a prefiguring of something in the future. One thing in the Old Testament resembles in some way a thing in the New Testament.Hebrews 10:1 says, "For the Law, since it has only a shadow of the good things to come and not the very form of things, can never, by the same sacrifices which they offer continually year by year, make perfect those who draw near." The Law of Moses was a shadow (an obscure resemblance) of what Christ brought to us (which is the substance, the actual object casting the shadow).Much of this kind of symbolism emphasizes the difference between the material nature of the Law of Moses and the spiritual emphasis of Christ's covenant: Israel versus the church; the temple made of stones versus the temple made of living stones; the 12 tribes of Israel versus the sons of God by faith in Christ; the animal sacrifices versus the sacrifice of Christ; etc. However, there are also people in the Old Testament who resemble Jesus in very specific ways. That's the emphasis of this class. In this study we'll concentrate primarily upon people who foreshadow Jesus in specific ways, either by their character and behavior, or by the circumstances and events they experienced.
