From story and Scripture to sex and politics, Jesus is at the center. That is the conviction of Voth and Beck in Jesus is the Thesis, who aim to help you more clearly see the truth and beauty of Jesus Christ--and through that clearer picture, see the joy of a life lived following him. It is in the recognition of Jesus as the main idea, the one who holds everything together, that we find the story beneath all stories, the through-line of the Bible, the hope for our lives, and the just and flourishing life we seek. Jesus is the Thesis is a unique and varied work of Christ-centered apologetics--for the student, for the skeptic, and for the seasoned follower of Christ.

This book recounts McDaniel's academic journey, weaving a tale of tragedy and triumph. As McDaniel soon discovers, higher education consists of much more than reading, writing and arithmetic. While some professors taught scholarly material and possessed a high degree of integrity, others were politically charged activists who used their classrooms to promote their own agendas--a trend that still continues today. McDaniel uses her own experiences to reveal tactics professors use to teach unsuspecting students what to think rather than how, a carefully devised plan aimed at replacing Christian faith and parental wisdom with humanist philosophy. More than an autobiography, McDaniel's story provides invaluable insight for prospective college students and their parents, stressing the need for a solid biblical foundation. --from back cover.

This thesis intends to show Jesus as a human being who, experientially, preached a relationship with God that all may attain. Its genesis grew from observing that the Christian church of this thesis creator's youth focused on the need for requirements by the God-follower as a qualification to speak with God. This thesis attempts to prove, through scholarly support and the Historical Critical Method of exegesis, that Jesus was a historical figure with whom the modern individual could relate and that Jesus instituted a path of communing with God after which all followers of God can model. The thesis first provides a foundation for why it is beneficial to see Jesus as a human being instead of fully divine, which a human could not necessarily understand. This section gives an overview of how Jesus behaved as a human being in his life, his distinct relationship with God as purveyor of one very intimate with the divine at work, and how the human being is attuned and aligned with the desire to know truth, and thus know the God that Jesus exemplified. Next, the Gospels of Luke, John and the Epistle to the Ephesians are exegeted to support Jesus as a human being who preached this compassionate God with a desire to relate to God's creation. During the exegetical process for all Biblical books, the historical world of Jesus and the writer is presented, in addition to the specific theological intent of the writer and the specific chosen passage. Academic research always has its surprises within the research itself. This thesis is no exception. Having the intention I abstracted here, I surprisingly found support, and yet also confusion in how to organize the material to give a coherent pattern of support. The result was a new understanding of interpretation, which I detail in the Results and Outcomes section. I end by concluding how the thesis process tweaked my calling to ministry, but more important, helped define not only the humanity of Jesus but my own as well.

"This thesis is a theological exploration of the question of Jesus' self-understanding and knowledge as presented in N.T. Wright's 'Jesus and the Victory of God.' Through a comparative discussion with the works of Thomas Aquinas, I argue that Wright's contention that Jesus did not know he was God results in an inverse form of Eutychianism. To do this, I demonstrate the inherently theological nature of the question of Jesus' knowledge and consciousness, highlighting the ways in which the question directly impinges upon the possibility of affirming the full humanity and full divinity of Christ. In chapter one I elucidate the aims and methods of Wright, clarifying the role played by 'self-understanding' in his historical reconstruction. A close consideration of Wright's central thesis in 'Jesus and the Victory of God' reveals both a positive proposal (in favor of Jesus' messianic self-understanding and supernatural knowledge). I argue that, although Wright argues persuasively in support of his positive proposal, he does not adequately support his negative proposal. In chapter two I turn to Thomas Aquinas, arguing that St. Thomas offers a coherent and essentially satisfying approach to the question of Jesus' knowledge and self-understanding. I further argue that Aquinas' approach establishes the question of knowledge and consciousness as a properly theological question and that he makes explicit the Christological implications of the question of Jesus' knowledge. In chapter three, I bring Wright and Aquinas into conversation, establishing my thesis that Wright's Christology is a 'Eutychianism from below.' Through a consideration of the contemporary relevance of the Council of Chalcedon and a discussion of the biblical theme of the Kingdom of God, I argue that Jesus did, in fact, possess certain knowledge of his divine identity. Finally, I draw the contents of these three chapters together in my conclusion in order to summarize the shortcomings of Wright's position and offer suggestions regarding the possible revision of his thesis in 'Jesus and the Victory of God' in light of his further arguments in volumes three and four of 'Christian Origins and the Question of God.'" -- pages iii-iv

The Bible contains a wealth of information which covers every aspect of life as we know it. The unfathomable riches and direction given in this work will lead everyone to the creator who gave it to them. The direction is unmistakable and the signs are everywhere. Heaven is assured if we follow this blueprint for life. Within the covers of this book in pat one are hidden stories given to us by God Himself. They are true and nothing has been altered. They tell us of many things which happened centuries ago and they teach us of the Lord Jesus Christ, our Savior. We could call them previews. These hidden pictures are called types, and this is a study of typology. Portraits of Christ reveals Jesus in the Old Testament for us. Then in part two there follows an Essay called The Scarlet Thread of Redemption. It traces the blood line of Christ and show Him on every page. As fascinating study the will draw you close to Him. Both part one and part two of this work are the requirements needed to complete my Master of Theology Degree. I know you will be blessed and I do believe you will find it truly is a fascinating study, one to be remembered!

The Man Christ Jesus written by Stephen Oliver Stout and has been published by Wipf and Stock Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-06-17 with Religion categories.

Does the Apostle Paul have any use for the person of Jesus presented in the Gospels? Critical scholarship thinks not, but this book argues that Paul not only mentions more than seventy specific details of the historical Jesus, but he also commends the character of Jesus and echoes His teachings repeatedly in his letters and sermons-in full agreement with the Gospel accounts. Stout examines Paul's intriguing description of the "Man Christ Jesus" (1 Tim 2:5) and suggests that this title fulfills the OT expectation of God appearing in human history as a man. In his incarnated humanity, the Man Christ Jesus accomplished salvation in the historical events of his life and death, and in his resurrected humanity, he appeared to Paul on the Damascus Road-rooting Paul's Christology deeply in human experience. Furthermore, Stout shows how Paul rests his concept of salvation on a neglected aspect of his doctrine-that the entire church is associated with the historical events of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus, an association which also unites his church with one another in fellowship and service. This book, then, demonstrates that Paul's gospel rests upon Jesus as a man of history who brings salvation into human history in his life, death, and exaltation as the "Man Christ Jesus."

"If a sermon is preached in a church and no one is listening, does it make a difference?" There are many expository preachers who forego dynamic delivery and many dynamic preachers who lose sight of faithfully communicating the biblical text. Too often preachers feel they have to choose one or the other. But dynamic delivery and faithful exposition are not mutually exclusive. In Preaching to Be Heard, Lucas O'Neill shows pastors that presenting engaging sermons that are biblically focused is not an impossibility. In fact, the key to commanding attention lies in the text itself. Rather than relying on tricks or gimmicks, his approach to sermon writing focuses on maintaining tension throughout while sticking close to the biblical text. Using practical examples and a step-by-step method, O'Neill shows pastors how relying on the inherent anticipation within Scripture can lead to sermons that are powerful--and heard.

In a provocative yet unexpectedly tender debut, Kopano Maroga immerses themself in Christian myth and mystery, emerging reborn. In a riotous, innovative and unapologetic display of self-exposure, self-examination and self-love, Maroga appropriates and creates a (sometimes literal) collage of religious imagery, sexual want, and embodiedness - eventually widening their gaze to encompass the realities faced by black, queer, femme and trans folk in South Africa and further afield. Indeed, these are poems of pain, loss, introspection, and regret; but they are also works of great and usual beauty, depth, desire, and ambition - in sum, the evidence of a powerful new voice in South African poetry.

Over the past two millennia, scholars have been debating over what was meant by the expression ?the Son of Man, ? which was used so frequently by the itinerant Rabbi from Nazareth known as Jesus. The expression occurs 81 times in the Gospels, 77 of which come from Jesus (with two additional ones in indirect speech). Despite being used so frequently by Jesus, an explicit explanation is never given in the Gospels (or in any book of the New Testament) as to what Jesus meant by the designation of ?the Son of Man.? Nevertheless, if Jesus did use the term himself as a self-designation, examining it would perhaps allow one to gain more insight into Jesus? self-understanding. Apart from revisions that were made since 2014, this book constitutes the thesis submitted for my M.A. in Religious Studies at Florida International University in 2014.
