At the beginning of the German occupation, there were ca. 37,000 Jews in Lublin. The Nazis displaced more than 3,000 Jews of Lublin to other places, and for the rest of the Jews they established a ghetto in April 1941. In March 1942 ca. 18,000 of the Jews were deported, mainly to Bełżec; many were killed on the spot. In April 1942 the Nazis established a new ghetto, in the Lublin suburb of Majdan Tatarski; 7,000 Jews were confined there. In September-November 1942 the small ghetto was also liquidated. Dwells on the activities of the Jewish Council, as well as on the forced labor, Nazi expropriation of Jewish property, and the internal life of the Jewish community in Lublin, both before the ghetto and during its existence. Contains excerpts from the testimonies of survivors and numerous photographs of sites from the prewar and wartime periods.

Between The Wires written by Waitman Wade Beorn and has been published by U of Nebraska Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-08 with History categories.

Between the Wires tells for the first time the history of the Janowska camp in Lviv, Ukraine. Located in a city with the third-largest ghetto in Nazi-occupied Europe, Janowska remains one of the least-known sites of the Holocaust, despite being one of the deadliest. Simultaneously a prison, a slave labor camp, a transit camp to the gas chambers, and an extermination site, this hybrid camp played a complex role in the Holocaust. Based on extensive archival research, Between the Wires explores the evolution and the connection to Lviv of this rare urban camp. Waitman Wade Beorn reveals the exceptional brutality of the SS staff alongside an almost unimaginable will to survive among prisoners facing horrendous suffering, whose resistance included an armed uprising. This integrated chronicle of perpetrators, victims, and bystanders follows the history of the camp into the postwar era, including attempts to bring its criminals to justice.

Lvov Ghetto Diary written by David Kahana and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1990 with History categories.

Originally published in Hebrew, this memoir bears witness to the systematic destruction of some 135,000 Jews in the Ukranian city of Lvov during the Holocaust. The author, a rabbi, escaped death because he was hidden by the Ukranian archbishop of the Uniate Catholic Church. His wife and young daughter were also given refuge, separately, in Catholic convents. The memoir covers the period from July 1, 1941, when the Germans occupied Lvov, to July 27, 1944, when the city was liberated. In the first part of the book, the author is living in the Jewish ghetto under increasingly dire circumstances; in the second part, he is imprisoned in a forced labour camp; and in the third part, following his escape, he is hiding under the protection of Metropolitan Sheptytskyi.

The title of this monograph, ‘Polish-Jewish Re-Remembering’, refers to the post-1989, thirty-year-long process of reviving attention to Polish-Jewish relations in historical, cultural, and literary studies, including the impact of Jews on the development of Polish culture, their presence in Polish social life, and the relationships between Jews and non-Jews in Poland. The book consists of four parts: the first focuses on Polish, Jewish and Polish-Jewish Literature (dealing mainly with pre-1939 literary works); the second, on the post-war literary output of the Polish-Jewish writer Arnold Słucki (1920–1972); the third, on Polish-Israeli literary images in the works of writers who were active in Israel (1948–2018); and the fourth, on recent (after 2000) Polish Holocaust literature.
