Do you ever feel sick of your job? Do you ever envy those people who seem to positively love what they do? While those people head off to work with a sense of joy and purpose, for the rest of us trudging back to the office on Monday morning or to the factory for the graveyard shift or to the job site on a hundred-degree day can be an exercise in soul crushing desperation. “If only we could change jobs,” we tell ourselves, “that would make it better.” But we don’t have the right education . . . or we don’t have enough experience . . . or the economy isn’t right . . . or we can’t afford the risk right now. So we keep going back to the same old unsatisfying jobs. The wonderful truth, though, is that almost any kind of occupation can offer any one of us a sense of calling. Regardless of where we are in our careers, we can all find joy and meaning in the work we do, from the construction zone flagger who keeps his crew safe to the corporate executive who believes that her company’s products will change the world. In Make Your Job a Calling authors Bryan J. Dik and Ryan D. Duffy explore this powerful idea and help the reader navigate the many challenges—both internal and external—that may arise along the pathway to a sense of calling at work. Over the course of four sections, the authors define the idea of calling, review cutting-edge research on the subject, provide practical guidelines for discerning a calling at all stages of work and life, and explore what calling will look like as workplace norms continue to evolve. They also take pains to present a realistic view of the subject by unpacking the perils and challenges of pursuing one’s higher purpose, especially in an uncertain economy. The lessons presented will resound with anyone in any line of work and will show how the power of calling can beneficially shape individuals, organizations, and society as a whole.

The next few pages of rambling is all around the last ten or so years of my working life. I'll bring up the shit I've learnt along the way, a few stories to give you a laugh but mostly, it's how I left school at sixteen with five very basic GCSE's and now a GM of a very successful video production company in the age of online content creation...all with a single goal. One key theme is how I segment the time: Jobs, Career and Calling.I'm not saying I know everything there is about sales/career progression or that my way is the right way. I may even tell you things you already know. The best thing to explain this is a picture floating around on LinkedIn where it shows two pathways both leading to the word Success. One is straight (which is 'perception'), the other is bendy with lots of dead ends ('reality'). This book is the reality of my path to success. Sounds wank but it's how I see it.

The aim of this study was to examine the concept of having a career calling and its relation to work-related outcomes among employees of an International Non-Governmental Organisation. Our hypothesis tested how having a sense of, or a presence of, a calling to a career in the field of Peacebuilding would relate positively to the work-related outcomes of, occupational identity and engagement, career commitment, organisational commitment, job involvement, number of hours worked, work-life conflict, individual dispositions and relate negatively to stress related outcomes of emotional exhaustion and burnout. Whilst moderating work-life conflict with a sense of calling and positive affect. All these factors were measured in order to explore their effect on the experiences of employees. A cross-sectional study was conducted and results found that the work-related outcomes that were significantly related to having a sense of calling were that of occupational engagement and identity, career commitment, organisational commitment and positive affect. The work-related outcomes that were not significantly related to having a sense of calling were that of job involvement, hours worked, work-life conflict, and emotional exhaustion and burnout. Our moderation hypothesis was not supported, and work-life conflict did not moderate the relationship between calling and positive affect. The findings of the study indicated that the outcomes of having a career calling are key in understanding the experiences of employees and an important element when incorporated into an international organisation involved in conflict resolution. Suggestions for future research were also proposed.

From Career To Calling written by Suzanne Cremen and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020 with Business & Economics categories.

Finding and following an authentic calling challenges us to bridge both the intuitive, soulful and the hard-edged, material dimensions of everyday life. From Career to Calling: A Depth Psychology Guide to Soul-Making Work in Darkening Times opens new avenues for vocational exploration and career inquiry in an imaginative way. This unique book draws on insights from the field of Jungian and archetypal psychology to reimagine our attitudes and approaches to work, money, vocational guidance and career development. As people find themselves disillusioned with or disenfranchised from capitalist notions of work and career, Suzanne Cremen's interdisciplinary approach illuminates how a creative, meaningful and influential work-life can emerge from attending to the archetypal basis of experience. Interweaving elements of her own journey, Cremen connects individual experience with the collective in an original way, spotlighting depression in the legal profession, marginalization of the feminine principle in work environments, and how understanding the roots of our cultural complexes can spark personal callings which facilitate collective transformation. Blending compelling real-life stories with robust scholarly analysis and reflective activities, this book will help practitioners to support individuals to develop a sense of their soul's calling and offer guidance on creating an authentic vocational life within the constraints of the contemporary era. Additionally, it will be invaluable to those in career transition, re-discovering their purpose at the end of a career, or commencing work-life.
