MANCALA: O Jogo Africano no Ensino da Matemática, constitui a inspiração filosófica deste livro que apresenta um relativo afastamento crítico do eurocentrismo, geralmente praticado na formação educacional e nos campos de pesquisa em educação no Brasil. A Lei 10.639/2003, tornou obrigatório o ensino de história e cultura afro-brasileira, nos estabelecimentos oficiais e particulares do ensino fundamental e médio. Para tanto, se torna necessário a formação e a capacitação de professores nas diversas áreas do conhecimento. Dentre as áreas do saber, a matemática tem apresentado maior dificuldade em se adequar a presente lei, devido a concepção de que este campo do conhecimento possui uma linguagem universal própria e, portanto, estaria fora do escopo do ensino de história e cultura afro-brasileira. No entanto, o propósito da obra é a introdução do ensino de matemática articulado com a cultura e história africana e afro-brasileira com o suporte da etnomatemática. Partindo das cosmovisões e filosofias africanas, o autor utiliza o jogo africano Mancala como ponto de partida para reflexões e mudanças de postura, dos professores e alunos, em relação a matemática e a nossa cultura afro-brasileira. Do ponto de vista pedagógico, é que se elegeu o jogo Mancala, visto ser uma atividade lúdica, com base lógica e com um amplo espectro de possibilidades de se relacionar com a matemática e, a temática da Lei 10.639/03. Neste contexto, o autor mostra neste livro, a forma como ele utilizou o jogo para construir conceitos de matemática e conhecimentos sobre história e cultura afro-brasileira. Por ser a matemática e a Lei 10.639/03 componentes do currículo oficial e, levando em consideração os resultados alcançados pelo autor em sua experiência com atividades multidisciplinares com o jogo, recomendamos esta obra para a capacitação de pedagogos e professores de diversas áreas do saber bem como para estudantes de graduação em matemática e pedagogia.
