Excerpt from Journal of the New York Entomological Society: Devoted to Entomology in General This larva is nearly allied to Apoda y-inversa and to what 1 now think is A. biguttaia, also in a less degree to the Packardias. It differs from these in the peculiar granulation. In referring the species to Tortricidia, the characters of the moth alone were considered. On the whole the species seems not strictly congeneric, phylogenetically, with either Apoda or Tortricidia, and the name Litlwcodes would be justified, if any good characters could be found in the moth. From Tortricidia pallida and Heterogenea flexuosa(?) this larva differs in the slight development of the depressed spaces which are as in Apoda. The shape is similar in both. T. fasciola ranges to the north, probably as far as T. pallida and it also ranges well to the south. It is an abundant species in New York, the larvae always well separated and living on a variety of plants, for the most part low. Occasionally the larvae will be found on very low shrubs. They are not particular as to the position of their food plant in regard to light, being found in open as well as dark woods. The small eggs are laid singly on the backs of the leaves in July and the larv Kmature in September. There are seven larval stages, occasionally eight, the larvae feeding in stage I, as in all the smooth Eucleids. A newly hatched larva was found by me on wild cherry and carried through to maturity. I am indebted to Miss Morton for fertile eggs, from which also I followed out the life history. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from Journal of the New York Entomological Society, Vol. 18: Devoted to Entomology in General, 1910 Another factor entering into the practical use of parasitic species is the general character of the present fauna of the various geo graphical regions, and a mention of the slight paleontological evidence bearing on this matter may not be amiss. It must however, be borne in mind that a more complete knowledge of fossil insects might easily reverse conclusions drawn from such necessarily fragmentary data. The presence of Indo - Australian types in Baltic amber of Oligocene age has been recently noted by Wheeler among ants, and I have recognized the same tendency among parasitic Hymenoptera, so that at least some of the present types of this region show a primitive or synthetic character and we should not expect to find them adap tive. This is of course merely a repetition of conditions long known to exist in the vertebrate fauna of this region. Besides this rather positive evidence entomology can at present offer nothing in this line additional to what has been discovered from the investigation of the higher groups of animals. Excerpt from Journal of the New York Entomological Society, Vol. 14: Devoted to Entomology in General;, 1906 I have a short revision of this genus nearly ready for publication, but awaiting some Mexican material for comparison and confirmation of my identifications. The following notes are published in advance. Anomala antennata, new species. Larger than parvula Burm., which it otherwise resembles in form, thorax with similar two dark spots at apex, but the elytral intervals are of equal size, convex. Antennal club sljghtly longer than the rest of the joints, pale testaceous. Head black coarsely rugosely punctured in front, more fine and sparse on the occiput, clypeal margin widely reflexed, broadly arcuate in front; eyes moderately prominent. Thorax more than twice as wide as long, sides arcuate, hind angles rounded, front angles obtuse; base finely margined; disk convex, surface rather sparsely and shallowly, punctate; color testaceous with two slightly elongate dark apical spots each oblique behind. Elytra slightly broader at base than the thorax, sides nearly parallel, disk convex, surface with nine stria?, the latter not punctate, intervals nearly equal, convex, except the subsutural which is broader and somewhat coarsely punctate at basal half, punctures finer and more distinct behind middle, the other intervals scarcely punctate and uneven; color testaceous with suture and side margin slightly darker. Pygidium moderately coarsely punctate, denser at sides than at middle. Body beneath and legs testaceous; metasternum clothed not densely with long hairs; abdomen shining, scarcely punctate and with only a few hairs. Front tibiae bidentate, the larger front claw finely cleft, the upper portion very short and hardly visible, intermediate claws entire, not cleft. Length (head porrected), to man.
