CayCee M. Johnson and Keith L. Johnson share affirmations, insights, and advice on living a meaningful life based on Christian principles in this roadmap to life. On the subject of connections, they write, “Isn’t it funny how when we are faced with issues and having a tough day, true friends can feel it, or we end up on their minds, and they call us. Thanks for being there, friends; I’m glad that you are. Where I go, I go in faith. The turmoil doesn’t matter. My faith is well founded; therefore, my future is secure with the Almighty.” On determination, they declare, “Regardless of the turmoil that surrounds me in the world, I am blessed to say I stand. I stand for my family, friends, and brothers and sisters. I am proud to say that I stand, and I thank those who make sure that I continue to stand upright before my God and before man.” Other topics include encouragement, faith, focus, gratitude, joy, kindness, love, peace, satisfaction, self-awareness, strength, and transformation. Filled with Scriptures, quotes from religious leaders, and hard-won lessons, this book will serve as an inspiring resource no matter what you’re facing.

When in search of God's direction for their lives, it is for those: • beginning this spiritual journey of accepting Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour, • who have started the journey but need encouragement, • who are well on the way, and • who can find renewed strength knowing that there are other faithful pilgrims journeying on this Narrow Road to the Eternal City. Indra Sasenarine narrates, from her earliest memories, chains of events and experiences that left a deep imprint in her heart and mind. These moments impacted her life forever and marked the beginning of her beautiful journey on the Road with Christ, fueled by her undying love for her Lord and Savior and a burning desire to serve in that Faith. With a teachable spirit and a desire to pursue the things of God without faltering in her quest to learn and grow in faith, she developed her gifts. In the process, she grew from a shy little girl to a pastor founding her own ministry. Walking the Road of the Christian faith is not meant to be a solitary journey. Indra shows readers how to live faithfully, thereby growing and developing a range of talents they never knew they had been endowed with, enabling them to reach their potential and to fulfill their God-given call.

This memoir highlights a compelling story of tragedy and triumph during the Jim Crow and separate but equal era in the Deep South. The book traces the evolution of Joseph Pierce Braud, from his humble birthplace in A-Bend in Ascension Parish to his graduation from Howard University Medical School in 1958 and thereafter. Braud overcame the death of his father and helped support the family by scrapping rice and potatoes and shining shoes on Carrollton Street in New Orleans. During the 1930s and 1940s, his family received only $18 per month for seven siblings. Before earning his medical degree from Howard University Medical School in 1958, Braud helped his siblings obtain a college education. Subsequently, he opened his medical practice in New Orleans and held a staff position at Flint-Goodridge Hospital of Dillard University. From Brookstown with its 300 residents, Dr. Braud paved the way for six members of his Braud Family Group to become Medical Doctors, including (14) BS degrees, (4) Masters Degrees, (1) Juris Doctorate, (1) Doctor of Philosophy, and (1) nurse. Find out how Braud beat the odds to earn his education and pave the way for other Blacks to enter the medical field.

The Newberry Medalist brings humor and heart to this story of a Civil War–era boy struggling to do right in the face of history’s cruelest evils. Twelve-year-old Charlie is down on his luck: His sharecropper father just died, and Cap’n Buck—the most fearsome man in Possum Moan, South Carolina—has come to collect a debt. Fearing for his life, Charlie strikes a deal with Cap’n Buck and agrees to track down some folks accused of stealing from the cap’n and his boss. It’s not too bad of a bargain for Charlie . . . until he comes face-to-face with the fugitives and discovers their true identities. Torn between his guilty conscience and his survival instinct, Charlie needs to figure out his next move—and soon. It’s only a matter of time before Cap’n Buck catches on. Praise for The Journey of Little Charlie A National Book Award Finalist “This is a compelling and ugly story for middle-grade readers told with genuine care. Little Charlie is a product of his Southern upbringing, yet in Curtis’s skillful hands he learns the world is not as he’d thought . . . Christopher Paul Curtis does it again.” —Historical Novel Society “A characteristically lively and complex addition to the historical fiction of the era from Curtis.” —Kirkus Reviews
