Né à Tungshiao, Taiwan, en 1938, Ju Ming est reconnu en Asie, aux Etats-Unis et au Royaume-Uni comme l'un des grands sculpteurs chinois d'aujourd'hui. Son apprentissage a commencé en 1953 auprès de Lee Chin-chuan, maître-artisan dans la statuaire en bois destinée aux temples bouddhiques. Ju Ming a déjà bénéficié, après avoir exposé en France en 1991 au musée d'Art contemporain de Dunkerque, d'une première grande présentation à Paris, place Vendôme, de ses sculptures "Taichi". Bien ancré dans sa culture d'origine, Ju Ming transpose dans sa sculpture le dialogue du vide et du plein (du Yin et du Yang) omniprésent dans la peinture chinoise. Du point de vue technique, Ju Ming privilégie la taille directe (les sculptures sont ensuite moulées pour être coulées en bronze). L'ouvrage publié aujourd'hui présente trois cycles d'œuvres essentiels dans la construction de la démarche esthétique de Ju Ming : les Arches Taichi, les Figures animées Taichi et les Figures du Monde Vivant.
