Como complemento a dichos estudios, la presente serie de ensayos le suple al aficionado de Mena y de su siglo una Optica sobre el trasfondo del mundo judeocristiano del poema. Mucho de lo que Mena ofrece en su poema tiene como fundamento y filtro su cosmovisiOn judeocristiana notoria, la cual pone un marco contextualizador que a primera vista no siempre queda evidente. Por lo tanto, el poema pre-nacional de Mena puede ser entendido y ubicado mAs equitativamente teniendo en cuenta varios aspectos judeocristianos del theatrum mundi, de la apropiaciOn de Virgilio, de la relaciOn de una EspaNa emergente al reino de Dios, del pensar temporal de San AgustIn, del discurso profEtico y de una estEtica mariana que se asoma en la caracterizaciOn de la Providencia. Se analiza tambiEn la presencia cultural-filosOfica de MaimOnides y la condiciOn debatida de Mena como converso, ademAs de otros aspectos y patrones de la religiOn, el arte y la cultura judeocristianos. Como el siglo quince es un perIodo de transiciOn de gran momento y envergadura para los estudios hispanos, y Mena permanece como el poeta prerrenacentista por antonomasia, tanto poema como poeta merecen un tratamiento que procura abarcar este contexto fundamental. Con todo, el trasfondo judeocristiano es matizado y anchuroso y, aquI se investigan varios puntos de entrada en el mundo de Juan de Mena que enriquecen el encuentro literario con el universo del Laberinto de Fortuna. *** The mythological-classical models that underlie the structure and thematic material of Juan de Mena's Laberinto de Fortuna (1444) have stimulated numerous profitable investigations. As a companion to these studies, the present series of interrelated essays supplies the enthusiast of Juan de Mena and his century an enhanced perspective on the background of the Judeo-Christian world of the poem. Much of what Mena offers in his poem has as its foundation and interpretive filter his well-known Judeo-Christian worldview, which provides a contextualizing frame that is not always immediately evident. Mena's pre-national poem can therefore be better understood and located, taking into account various Judeo-Christian aspects of theatrum mundi, the appropriation of Vergil, the relation of an emergent Spain to the kingdom of God, Saint Augustine's concept of time, prophetic discourse, and a Marian aesthetic that appears in Mena's characterization of Providencia. The cultural-philosophical presence of Maimonides is also analyzed, and Mena's putative condition as a converso is revisited. The study also references other aspects and patterns of Judeo-Christian religion, art and culture. Since the fifteenth century is considered a period of wide-ranging transition for Hispanic studies, and Mena remains as the pre-renaissance poet par excellence; both poem and poet deserve a treatment that seeks to include this fundamental context. All considered the Judeo-Christian background of the poem is wide and nuanced, leading this investigation to various points of entry into the world of Juan de Mena that will enrich a literary encounter with the universe of the Laberinto de Fortuna.
