I believe that this is not just an investigative work. It is a fantastic journey that takes the readers from villa del Parque Reale, a location not far from Milano and finishes on April 16th, 1950 in San Remo. The journey has the main purpose to dig out Juan M Fangio’s first stages after the Second World War and to understand how the man born in Balcarce could climb up, until reaching the summit of the Racing Car world in less than four years. The focus of this incredible journey is not focussed when Fangio is part of the Formula 1 world, but four years earlier. Nevertheless, to understand what was happening during the post-war Europe and in the opulent post war Argentina can be only understood by surfing many pre-war events that happened in Europe; more precisely in Italy and Germany. A huge rivalry grew between these two allies whose outcome paved the way to the creation of the Formula 1 Championship. Within this atmosphere, the start of the Second war created the perfect environment for the appearance and growth of Argentinean names and figures. An Italian rooted surname turned to be a fantastic help to reach sports and political goals. Notwithstanding, sports was not the only objective. Regimes copy regimes, and where some fail, others try to succeed. Pursuing this objective, the Argentinean 1947-1950 regime concentrated its efforts on building up part of its power upon a tripod. As they were doing so, any success was shown up to the whole country. Money and propaganda went hand in hand. The war had left the Argentinean Central Bank loaded, so any dream could be fulfilled. The question that started this journey was: Why was Fangio and not another driver the chosen since the very beginning? We have learnt about his driving skills and abilities as well as mechanical knowledge. But most of the times, these skills seem not to be enough. A causal chain of events aligned in such a way that it allowed the Balcarce former TC driver and champion to climb to the top of the sportspeople Olympus. Volviendo a los pilotos de carreras, Juan Domingo Perón ayudó y patrocinó especialmente a Juan Manuel Fangio y lo convirtió en el piloto de carreras argentino por excelencia. Gracias a los objetivos y políticas nacionales y de exterior de Perón, primero Juan Fangio y luego José F. González, Onofre Marimon y muchos otros pudieron llegar a la, entonces, recién nacida Fórmula 1. Los objetivos financieros, políticos e industriales que interesaban profundamente a Juan Perón abrieron las puertas de las fábricas de autos de carreras más importantes de los años cincuenta. Estos tenían sus propios propósitos que necesitaban a la Argentina como el cofre del dinero de donde sacar los recursos financieros para sobrevivir o como un lugar donde vender productos, así como la locación escondida perfecta para huir. Con ventajas, ambas partes acordaron permitir que los mejores autos dentro los equipos para pilotos argentinos. Y Fangio se convirtió en el mejor ejemplo. Sin desafiar las habilidades de Fangio al volante (sin ofender a los fanáticos de Fangio), los primeros tres Campeonatos Mundiales de Pilotos de Fangio (1951-1954 y 1955) no podrían ganarse sin el interés del presidente argentino de 1946-1955. El Mundial de 1956 parece nacer del interés de una fábrica de automóviles que tenía beneficios comerciales en Argentina y de la astucia de un directivo italiano que construyó a partir de Fangio una imagen mundialmente famosa. El desarrollo del campeonato parece justificar esta afirmación. Todo lo anterior sucedió cuando Perón, el primero y los siguientes gobiernos, intentaron industrializar la Argentina a través de la industria automotriz.

As Europe moves toward an integrated academic system, European economics is changing. This book discusses that change, along with the changes that are happening simultaneously within the economics profession. The authors argue that modern economics can no longer usefully be described as neoclassical , but is much better described as complexity economics. The complexity approach embraces rather than assumes away the complexities of social interaction. The authors also argue that despite all the problems with previous European academic structures, those structures allowed for more diversity than exists in US universities, and thus were often ahead of US universities in exploring new cutting-edge approaches. The authors further argue that by trying to judge themselves by US-centric measures and to copy US universities, the European economics profession is undermining some of the strengths of the older system strengths on which it should be building. While the authors agree that European economics needs to go through major changes in the coming decade, they argue that by building on Europe s strengths, rather than trying to follow a US example, Europe will be more likely to become the global leader in economics in the coming decades rather than a second-rate copy of the US. The book begins with two chapters spelling out the authors view of the changes in economics and European economics. This is followed by 11 interviews with a diverse set of innovative European economists from a range of European countries. In the interviews these European economists reflect on the ongoing changes in economics generally and in European economics specifically. These interviews demonstrate how the economics profession is moving away from traditional neoclassical economics into a dynamic set of new methods and approaches (incorporating work in behavioral economics, experimental economics, evolutionary game theory and ecological approaches, complexity and nonlinear dynamics, methodological analysis, and agent-based modelling) that the authors classify as complexity economics.
