How Much House written by Urs Peter Flueckiger and has been published by Birkhaüser this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016 with Small houses categories.

The space we live in, reduced to a minimum, has been fascinating us for generations - the writer Thoreau lived in a self-built hut in the forest from 1845 -1847. In 1952, Le Corbusier built a hut at the Côte d'Azur for himself and his wife. Inspired by this, Urs Peter Flückiger, together with his students, built an ecologically and economically sustainable cabin in the Texan prairie. All three projects share the idea of minimal space and its relationship with the surrounding nature. In text, drawings, and photographs, this book analyses the three projects and shows parallels and similarities. Inspired by Tolstoy's story How Much Land Does A Man Need?, the author asks: "How much house does a man need?", thereby providing a pointed contribution to the current discussion on the requirement for housing.

Cybernetics Of The Poor written by Diedrich Diederichsen and has been published by National Geographic Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-08-03 with Art categories.

An examination of the relationship between art and cybernetics and their intersections, with works that use the powerlessness of art. Cybernetics of the Poor examines the relationship between art and cybernetics and their intersections in the past and present. From the late 1940s on, the term cybernetics began to be used to describe self-regulating systems that measure, anticipate, and react in order to intervene in changing conditions. Initially relevant mostly in the fields of administration, planning, criminology, and early ecology, under digital capitalism cybernetics has since become an economic factor (particularly in the realm of big data). In such a cybernetic totality, art must respond to a new situation: a cybernetics of the poor. Cybernetics of the Poor presents work that uses the powerlessness of art--its poverty--vis-à-vis the cybernetic machine to propose countermodels: work that is both recent and historical by artists who believed in cybernetics as a participatory, playful practice or were pioneers in delineating a counter-cybernetics. How much of what Thomas Pynchon termed "counterforce" exists within art when it is conceived as a cybernetics of the poor?

The Art Of Rachel Whiteread written by Chris Townsend and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2004 with Art categories.

In little more than a decade Rachel Whiteread has emerged as one of the most significant British artists of the past fifty years, with a substantial international reputation. Based upon a practice of inverted casting - making space tangible - Whiteread's work offers both intimate and public meditations on vital questions of history, memory and social change. But these are also artworks with profound and carefully weighed formal concerns and an affiliation to the critical issues of sculpture raised throughout the twentieth century. Often surrounded by controversy, Whiteread's work is, perhaps, so provoking because it so successfully melds artistic and historical issues. Out of the solidification of space Whiteread creates an archive that compacts and makes legible those intangibles that comprise so much of ordinary life: lost memories and stilled voices. Whiteread's work is appraised both in terms of its relationship to art history and its social and political impact, and examined for possible theoretical approaches through which we may better understand this most complex and challenging of contemporary artists.

Architecture As Measure written by Neyran Turan and has been published by Actar this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020 with Architecture categories.

In light of the current political crisis around climate change, what can architecture possibly contribute towards a new planetary imaginary of our contemporary environment beyond environmentalism and technological determinism? Instead of conceptualizing the idea of the environment as purely natural and in need of protection, as solely a problem that needs to be managed, or merely as the Earth, which limits the scope with a scalar bias, can we speculate on architecture as a measure both to assess and to act upon the world? 'Architecture as Measure' is an elaboration on this question, and on the disciplinary and cultural potentials of such a provocation. It positions climate change as a cultural and political idea that requires a renewed architectural environmental imagination.0The book takes on this task by presenting a set of unconventional collisions between architecture and climate change, which all extrapolate broader concerns of the city, environment, and geography through the lens of specific architectural questions such as form, representation and materiality.

The exhibition The Promise of Total Automation at the Kunsthalle Wien (vienna, 2016) investigated our relationship to a world of machines, technological objects, and electronic devices. The prospect of a fully automated futurewhile acutely reshaping the notions of work, production, and value creationfeeds emancipatory scenarios that ultimately lead to the end of labor. Instead of offering a traditional record of the exhibition, the curators investigated books written on the subject and then reproduced their covers. The result is a fascinating bibliography and chronology of automation as seen across the twentieth century through the covers of books and their authors. Included artists are Athanasios Argianas, Zbynek Baladrn, Thomas Bayrle, James Benning, Bureau dtudes, Steven Claydon, Tyler Coburn, Philippe Decrauzat and Alan Licht, Harry Dodge, Juan Downey, Ccile B. evans, Judith fegerl, Melanie Gilligan, Peter Halley, Channa Horwitz, Geumhyung Jeong, David Jourdan, Barbara Kapusta, Konrad Klapheck, Bela Kolrov, nick Laessing, Mark Leckey, Tobias Madison and emanuel Rossetti, Benot Maire, Mark Manders, Daria Martin, Shawn Maximo, Rgis Mayot, Wesley Meuris, Gerald nestler, Henrik Olesen, Julien Prvieux, and Magali Reus.
