In diesem Buch werden aktuelle Studien der kultur- und sozialwissenschaftlichen Jugendforschung im Kontext von Religion und Migration vorgestellt. Zum einen wird die Bedeutung religiöser Zugehörigkeiten im komplexen Identitätsmanagement von Kindern und Jugendlichen, deren Leben durch Migrationsprozesse in der Elterngeneration mitbestimmt wurde, thematisiert. Zum anderen wird die Thematisierung der Religion der Anderen reflektiert. Die qualitativen Forschungen in der Schweiz und Deutschland veranschaulichen, was es für Kinder und Jugendliche bedeutet, mit natio-ethno-kultureller Mehrfachzugehörigkeit umzugehen bzw. als Andere festgeschrieben zu werden. Die Autor/-innen verfolgen eine intersektionale Perspektive, die religiöse Zugehörigkeiten und Praxen nicht isoliert, sondern immer im Zusammenspiel mit anderen gesellschaftlich relevanten Ordnungen wie Alters- oder Geschlechtszugehörigkeit betrachtet. Das Spektrum der Beiträge spiegelt dabei den religiösen Pluralismus in Deutschland sowie in der Schweiz wider. In diesem Rahmen zeigen mehrere Studien, dass Jugendliche kaum einer Religion ausgeliefert sind, sondern dass sie religiöse Zugehörigkeiten vielfältig nutzen, etwa um Erfahrungen der nationalen oder kulturellen Ausgrenzung zu überschreiten oder um im je relevanten Kontext das Generationenverhältnis oder die Geschlechterbeziehungen neu zu verhandeln.
