Eh, tapi kehidupan dunia nyata Jo juga masih heboh kok. Misalnya saat dia dan Nadine ti ba-ti ba ditunjuk jadi ketua kegiatan sosial di kelasnya. Waduh, susah banget kan mesti kerja sama kalau di FB saja mereka musuhan? Belum lagi Rajiv yang rajin meminjamkan ini-itu pada Jo. Mulai dari raket bulu tangkis, sampai ke HP. Jangan-jangan Rajiv suka sama Jo, lagi. Tapi, Jo naksir Rajiv nggak ya? Hah, mau di dunia nyata mau di dunia maya, hidup Jo sama ribetnya!

Peraturan jadi remaja: 1. Nggak boleh memakai celana pendek (apalagi di depan cowok). 2. Punya baju dan aksesori oke (apalagi yang bisa membedakanmu dari anak-anak SMP yang seragamnya sama membosankannya). 3. Harus memakai deodoran (meski rasanya geli). 4. Memakai pakaian dalam yang seharusnya, sesuai pertumbuhanmu (tahu kan maksudku?). 5. Harus punya geng yang keren (meski mereka sangat menjengkelkan, tahan saja, daripada dianggap kuper). 6. Harus punya pacar (ini syarat supaya kamu diakui sebagai remaja keren). Ternyata susah bangeeet jadi anak remaja, sampai-sampai terkadang, aku (Jo Wilisgiri, 12 tahun) berharap nggak perlu tumbuh. Aku kangen banget pada masa SD-ku. Apalagi aku mulai kehilangan sahabat baikku dan dikhianati cowok yang kukagumi. Satu kata untuk masa SMP-ku: MENGERIKAN!

Jo pengin menyelamatkannya, tapi Sally justru marah dan memusuhinya. Nabila, sahabat Jo yang lain, juga dikerjai tapi mati-matian melarang Jo buat mengadu. Aduh, masalah seolah nggak ada habisnya. Hubungan Jo dengan Rajiv gonjang-ganjing karena Mama melarang Jo pacaran. Selain itu, ada proyek besar semester ini: bikin laporan soal kelestarian sungai. Gawat! Dalam proyek ini Jo sekelompok dengan Izzy dan Sally. Bisa-bisa Jo bakal nggak dapat nilai. Puncaknya: Rajiv harus kuliah di Amerika. Wow! Benar-benar semester yang gila untuk Jo. Berantakan, galau, kacau balau, tapi tetap seru, lucu, dan penuh cinta!

This book examines how style and intersubjective meanings emerge through language use. It is innovative in theoretical scope and empirical focus. It brings together insights from discourse-functional linguistics, stylistics, and conversation analysis to understand how language resources are used to enact stances in intersubjective space. While there are numerous studies devoted to youth language, the focus has been mainly on face-to-face interaction. Other types of youth interaction, particularly in mediated forms, have received little attention. This book draws on data from four different text types - conversation, e-forums, comics, and teen fiction - to highlight the multidirectional nature of style construction. Indonesia provides a rich context for the study of style and intersubjectivity among youth. In constructing style, Indonesian urban youth have been moving away from conventions which emphasized hierarchy and uniformity toward new ways of connecting in intersubjective space. This book analyzes how these new ways are realized in different text types. This book makes a valuable addition to sociolinguistic literature on youth and language and an essential reading for those interested in Austronesian sociolinguistics.
